Worst Ebayers - are they known and how to stop them!

33 posts in this topic

but how do you buy a book on the boards? ebay invoice? what if something goes wrong? how is the buyer protected?

1. Go to the For sale section

2. Read the selling threads

3. Find a book you like

4. Post :takeit:

5. Contact the seller (or most will contact you)

6. Pay the seller

7. Get your books.

Most sellers take Paypal and some will take checks/money orders also.

I have yet to have a problem with any transaction on the boards. Everything has been delivered as advertised (or better).

The boards police themselves and most issues get resolved. You can also check a seller's feedback thread (under the Kudos section of the selling forum).

As with any buying/selling venue there is the chance of problems arising, but, I have seen far less here than I have seen on E-Bay and other places.

It truly is a shame e-bay has gone downhill over the years and I found it

was great six or seven years ago and there are still some honest sellers

and if you get lucky you can find some real gems for great prices. If e-bay

didn't make so many useless changes over the years it still might not be a

bad place. I find there are way too many "Buy it Now's" that are way over

priced waiting for some collector that desperately wants that paticular

book.

When I joined these boards I thought I had landed in comic book heaven

and sure some books might cost a bit more than e-bay and there are many

incredible deals also and I find you quite often get what you paid for from

most of our sellers. The grading here is usually very strict if you know who

you're buying from. (thumbs u

eBay rules make it more and more difficult for honest sellers. The crooked ones will still find ways to get around them...but with that being said, I finally bit the bullet and listed some things and I'm pleased to see a lot of nice people I USED to deal with, when it was fun and everyone knew each other's names on the boards there...

It's just like anything else, there are good people and bad...and more times than not, people will be quicker to post a complaint, than they will a compliment, so you see a lot of the bad stuff posted...even makes me a little wary and I always liked eBay in the past..

I took a couple of months away from the boards early in the year and used

e-bay more than I usually do and despite some negative feelings I have about

it, I was pleasantly surprised to purchase a few nice books and speak to

some great sellers that were extremely nice. Like you say Sharon there are

good and bad people everywhere and I think the more exposure comics

have gotten over the last few years with movies and other avenues, it has

brought out more crooks and scam artists when there's more money

involved. These dishonest sellers still make e-bay and paypal money, so I

don't really think e-bay is that interested in getting rid of them.

Look how long and how hard many of us tried to get rid of

"Makemeanofferandwin" and whatever other users names they have and I'm

sure those two punks Mike posted a picture of are still selling on e-bay. :(

Fay, I'm not thrilled with their changes, I miss the days when you saw bidders names for one...I LIKED meeting other collectors, and avoiding shill bidding...and you are certainly right, there are some people they NEED to get rid of.

But scam people are a small percent, I hate to paint the nice people with the same brush...and alas, not everyone knows this place...and if they did, we'd have more of the scam people right here.

Check the probation list, sometime...no place is perfect and how often does AlleyBat show up here? Once a month? More?.

I still pick up good stuff from eBay all the time. It can be a minefield at times - you just need to listen to your scamometer.

You are correct Sharon and I didn't mean to seem like I was trying to argue

your points. There are many great sellers on e-bay and I think we sometimes

are too quick to bash e-bay or right the place off. :foryou:

No, I didn't think you were...Fay...I should have written less, lol. I was getting carried away, I really do miss the old eBay:)

Hope you had a great birthday!

Thanks Sharon and I really did have an awesome Birthday and I am truly

blessed to be where I am today with some incredible people in my life after

all the abuse I put myself through and those around me years ago. How my

better half stuck with me is amazing. 26 years in May. (thumbs u

I'm like you and I miss the old e-bay where you could see who was bidding

on which books and who you were bidding against, especially when I first

started collecting back in 2003 and trying to learn as much as I could. I still

have friends that I exchange e-mails with from e-bay that I met years

ago.

It's a shame there isn't a more stable place to buy online. Most of the larger stores are hit or miss. I've come across great ebay deals like the time I bought crisis on infinite earths 1-12 for $20 and all were in pristine condition. But then there is the person_too_unaware_of_social_graces that sold me 15 from the Frank Miller dd run as NM (and I paid NM prices) only to receive something a dog chewed on. Sure, you get your money back in most cases but paying for shipping ends up putting you into the negative.

Serves me right for spending money on comic books. But I just can't friggin help myself!
