Thinking of picking up this copy from a local seller whose liquidating his collection - he's claiming an 8.0, but I'm not sure and I don't want to overpay ... What grade would you counter with when making an offer (or is he just plain right)?

I don't think that crease upper right, staple tears, chips and the spine roll would be in the 8.0 range. Personally, I'd be more comfortable with 6.5 at max, but it's a very nice book. I wouldn't be shocked at more than 6.5, but I think 8.0 is optimistic at best.

6.5 but I could see this stretching to a 7.0. Accumulation of too many smaller defects for an 8.0. Still a great looking book though.

I would not be shocked to see CGC give this an 8.0

 

But I would not pay 8.0 price for it raw.

Looks like a 7.0 ... could be better in hand. But as noted, I wouldn't want to pay full pop raw.
