Anyone Attending the National Popular Culture Association Conference this April?

WHAT: The National Popular Culture Association /American Culture Association Conference

WHERE: Boston, Mass.

WHEN: April 12th-14th, 2012

WHO: That's the question!

Just wondering who else will be attending this conference in Boston in about two weeks? I know that Ijiwaru Sensei, Theagenes, and myself will be presenting papers on Friday, and will be trying to get together for shared meal / drink at some point that day. So, we were wondering if anyone else from the forums was going to be attending this year?

This will be my second time giving a paper a PCA. It's a lot more fun than your typical academic conference. There are quite a few sessions on comic books and graphic novels and even pulps. The paper I'm giving is on Robert E. Howard (shocker) and his Breckinridge Elkins stories.

Last year PCA was in San Antonio and I got to hang out with boardies Weird Paper and MYNAMEISLEGION and had a blast. I'm really looking to Boston this year. If there are any other boardies in the area, it would be great to get together and geek out.

Man, they should have pushed it back a week and made it part of the Boston Comic Con! That would've been some cool panels.

But I'll be at the Red Sox/Tampa Bay game on Sunday the 15th. Come by Section 30 and say "hi"!

Sounds great. Please post info about how it goes. (thumbs u

Will do! I'm only able to attend Saturday as I have another conference that's 4 days long the following week... and my wife's good humor about playing single parent with two munchkins runs only so far

Too bad though as there seem to be some really interesting panels that I'd love to check out. Ah well!

That sounds interesting. I'll just be getting in to town around that time or I'd definitely check it out. :(

It's cool. I wanted to leave later in the week myself but they scheduled us the first day. You a teacher or something?

I've taught in the past, but now I'm a government archaeologist. I've been dabbling in REH scholarship for the last few years and having fun with it. In fact, like Mac Man, I've got back-to-back conferences. The following week I'm giving a paper at the national archaeology conference (SAA) in Memphis.

Seems the comics area of the conference will be having a dinner Friday evening. Those in attendance: Any interest in going? I'll probably need to be on the road no later than 8:30 so I can get home around midnight.

hm

Here's a fun write-up on comic scholarship from last year's PCA conference that talks about the formation of the esteemed Institute for Korvac Studies.

I might be interested. The pulp guys are also getting together, but I'm not sure if it's Thursday or Friday night. This is going to be a lot of fun!
