Pedigree question

I've seen pedigree discussions bouncing around the board here, simple question about pedigrees. Other than being a superior collection of books, what exactly is a pedigree? How does a collection qualify to become one? When I die in 50 years, how do I get my collection to qualify as Dead Guy Pedigree #4213?

From what I understand Matt is still collecting info and will not be coming out anytime before the SD con. I cant wait until that book comes out.
