KEY 80's Batman Issues?

16 posts in this topic

Hello,

I'm considering buying a relatively large lot of 80's-early 90's Batman comics (probably around 200 for 25 cents a comic). What are the key issues I should look for to decide if its worth it. This will be mostly for investment value. The price isn't bad, just not sure if its worth my time to pick through and separate.

So far things that seem valuable-ish to look for.

Dark Knight Rises

A Death in the Family

Killing Joke

Stuff w/Macfarlane?

Other Frank Miller stuff?

I'm tapped, what else is good (hopefully there's more)?

Hook it up, I'm not a Bat expert.

The variants and 2nd, 3rd, and maybe sometimes 4th printings is where the money is at for Copper Batman, IMHO. Someone with more knowledge can chime in but the only Variants that I have are Batman #457 (New Robin) and Batman #497 (Batman vs Bane). There are several.

Also, Vengeance of Bane has been hot for some time.

at a quarter a book, cant see anything wrong with picking up the lot. worst thing that happens is that you get to read them lol

thanks for the tips guys, i'll keep a lookout for some of these. and the worst that can happen is that my gf murders me in my sleep for bringing in more boxes of comics (regardless of the price).

Basically the guy is selling his collection as a lot and there are two key well known comics I want, but not sure if its worth it overall to grab the other 500 or so comics too of which I know at least 200 are complete rubbish and 100 are unknown entities and 200 are batmans from the 80's-90's (maybe a few from the late 70's). And after paying an ok price for the keys, does the value of the rest (which I prefer to get rid of) make it worth it overall.

NOTE: reading the batmans is an option, although also may result in my getting murdered.

its a mix of batman and detective comics from what he told me. he claims they were unread and immediately bagged and boarded....except for the two big keys I want....

well depending on the condition of the two keys when I inspect them, the whole point could be moot if their quality is high enough for me to buy at the offered price. Then I may be flooding the sale boards with random free 80's batmans (and a some eclipse and malibu comics, bleh).

or I might get stabbed in my sleep.

oh snap I already own 368! yay go me!

I think my best chance is to hope that I catch a few Mark Jeweler's Variants. What's the best way to tell if it is w/o taking it out of the bag and board? (yes i know its unlikely, but I may as well check)

Any idea which Malibus are in the lot?

I mean, just out of curiosity. :)

dam thats comprehensive. wow a million things to look for! fun! thanks!

i want the 457 where the UPC is the bat signal! I don't know if this dude will let me sit there and hunt with a checklist, but just the prospect might make it worth it for me to purchase at about a quarter per book. Thanks so much!

its a mix of batman and detective comics from what he told me. he claims they were unread and immediately bagged and boarded....except for the two big keys I want....

well depending on the condition of the two keys when I inspect them, the whole point could be moot if their quality is high enough for me to buy at the offered price. Then I may be flooding the sale boards with random free 80's batmans (and a some eclipse and malibu comics, bleh).

Any idea which Malibus are in the lot?

I mean, just out of curiosity. :)

I have no idea, are there any valuable ones? I just assumed they were all drek.

No valuable ones, but I kind of like comic book dreck.
