tdcomixncardz and CGG

146 posts in this topic

There's one thing that puzzles me. IF CGG and tdcomix are co-operating, why wouldn't they just deliberately overgrade tdcomix's books? Much easier and practically risk free. Although restored, most books sold by tdcomix got better grades after resubmitting them to CGC.

To me it seems that tdcomix tries to take advantage of CGG's lack of restoration detection.

I am beginning to think the undergrading is deliberate.

If word gets around that you can buy a CGG 9.2 and send it to sunny Florida for a three month vacation where it somehow returns a 9.6,you've gotten a great return on your investment. If eight out of ten get bumped like that and two come back PLOD,you still will see some nice returns.

I'm not a GPA guy but if you bought 10 CGG Marvel Team-up #1s in 9.2,and seven of them recieved CGC 9.6s,wouldn't you be way ahead of the game? With three PLODs left over,to do whatever with(including sending them back to CGG for re-slabbing.)

I can picture an ad campaign not unlike CGCs.

a raw book selling for $15,a CGG 9.2 selling for $50 and the same book, now CGC'd selling for $300 in 9.6

If anything will cause CGG books to get hot,it is the possibility of being able to flip them for a great profit.

There's that restoration demon rearing its ugly head again. If I wasn't so honest, I would've sent my hammer ASM issues through CGG...

Thanks for the info, folks. Everything here is factual and to the point. Perception about being impartial and competent has reached new low levels.

Sounds good, except the end result is that CGG books get removed from circulation, and they end up helping the competition...and ultimaitely more CGC books end up on the census. A warped strategy at best... (however if I was bent on making profits--your strategy does sound plausible based on info presented)

Anyone know how they do that? Cover and centerfold reinforced? I guess without replacing the staple? Just wondering what is involved with that. confused-smiley-013.gif

Perhaps a layer of rice paper in the staple area? Or perhaps staple tears were sealed with archival glue? In any case, I think it would be fairly easy to detect.

Daniel, people are upset at YOU because of your questionable business practices.

Let me list them..................

2. You have given us poorly doctored scans.

Yes, please make an efforts to improve the quality of your doctored scans. wink.gif

In my limited experience, CGG does not routinely undergrade silver age books. I will post in the Grading forum the Amazing Spider-Man #10 CGG 9.4 that I bought from Goldust. I think CGG got the grade about right.

***edit***

I also think that they accurately graded the two Tales To Astonish books that I bought that were CGG graded as 9.2s.

Maybe CGG doesn't realize that CGC is soft on SA books...... boo.gif

I've seen more "soft" CGC grades on silver age books than I've seen "tough" CGG grades on silver age books, but then again, I can probably count the total number of CGG-graded silver age books on my fingers and toes.

By the way -- the CGG 9.4 ASM#10 is up in the grading forum.

Yes, I learned to do so from a bookkeeper like you.
