Artist's Editions—Protfolios

19 posts in this topic

I bought them both at The Great Escape in Nashville last weekend. I think it's a great way to publish complete stories that might not have a shot at a full-fledged Artist's Edition. I thought they were well worth the money.

I'd love to see Gene Park's complete G.I. Joe #21 published in this format. I don't know if it's something Gene would be up for, but with IDW holding the G.I. Joe publishing rights, I'd think it wouldn't be difficult to pull off.

I haven't seen them. Got a link?

In general, I'm not a portfolio guy. I find them hard to store. Like the books though. Art,stories, and stand nicely on the shelf.

Alex, unlike most portfolios, the AE portfolio's are hardcover. Imagine if you took the cover off an Artist's Edition and replaced the inside with a pocket for the portfolio pages. Very sturdy.

Hardcover, really? Then price is not so high after all. What about a softcover edition with a price in the $15-20 range? I'd buy it at this price....

Here is the complete OA of the Thrill Kill story:

It looked like this when published in Creepy #75:

You can find all the OA of the Muck Monster story in the gallery of Scott Williams:

Steve Staszower owns the prelims of the story:

in this link you'll find the colored version published in Comix International #2 (Fall 1975):

But no, I have not seen how the portfolios look. Both stories are masterpieces from truly masters at his peak, so I think that the portfolios are well worth the purchase.

Scott, do I get a complimentary copy for the promo? ;)

Ferran-

Thanks for those great links - and many thanks for including the one to the Muck Monster prelims in my CAF. IMHO those prelims are a great insight into the inner workings of Bernie's mind when he was creating the story.

Are these sold out? I can't find an IDW link and the TFAW site says they aren't available. :(

They just came out last week.

You can find them for full price at mycomicshop.com, which has live inventory. Other online stores say not available.

I ordered them from Previews through my LCS and got them several weeks ago. They are fantastic.
