Harvey adventure and mystery title collecting thread!

127 posts in this topic

I've posted most of the Black Cat's before so I won't double down on those.

Why not? Has there been any other Black Cat or Harvey thread in the Golden Age forum these last two years? If not, how can you be so sure everyone who may be interested has viewed those comics?

If I've already taken the trouble to scan a comic, I then post it wherever it fits over the next few months in order to get maximum use from my scan. You can't assume that everyone reading one thread will have read the other thread on a different topic. There's so many different threads that few posters look at them all.

(shrug)

No problem. I'll post a few from time to time.

Someone has finally started releasing hardcover collections of many of these titles and I picked up several a few weeks ago. Dying to get into reading them, as I've read very little of it before.

I actually don't understand why Harvey comics from the forties don't have more fans. Together with DC, Timely/Marvel, Dell, MLJ and ACG, Harvey was one of the very few companies to remain in the comic publishing business right through from the forties to the sixties.

Black Cat in particular is one of my very favourite characters from the forties. Part of the reason may be due to the artwork of Lee Elias. His work was a cut above that of most of his compatriots from the era.

I hope this fits in here somewhere between adventure and mystery. if not please excuse my ignorance,

Teen-Age Dope Slaves is a simply fabulous comic mag! That comic is the very soul of this thread, and one that every comic fan should have as the cornerstone of his collection!

Romance comics are welcome in this thread as well. They're an adventure into mystery you might say.... Everything but funny animal and teen genre Harveys are welcome here.

Here are scans of a few more of my Black Cat comics:

I'm glad you feel that way... It's been one of my favourite books/covers since I started collecting. I also have a couple romance books.

Pity you only have the two!

Why was it used in SOTI? It looks pretty tame for a romance comic from that era. No headlights let alone salacious cover blurbs or dialogue.

In the meantime, here are scans of my Di ck Tracy comics:

I believe it was an illustration commenting on the title being "First Love". I guess that was pretty scandalous for the 50's. (shrug)

Late bloomers I'd say. The characters all look to be in their early twenties.
