The Flee-Marquette Orlando Comic Expo video con report featuring Forumites!

18 posts in this topic

The debut of the Orlando Comic Expo was this last Sunday and it did

very well coming out of the gate. The promoters seemed a bit anxious

before the doors opened, but a steady stream of attendees quickly filled

the hall and they (TupennyConan, KingorRulers, lookwhoitis) were breathing

easier. Parking was an issue for the first couple of hours, but that soon

smoothed out as spaces opened up. I have seen many shows in this

area that didn't get it right and were not heard from again. I think we finally

have another show in Central Florida besides Megacon to look forward to.

What was especially cool to see were a lot of families with little kids in

attendance. (thumbs u

I mostly shot video and browsed, but I did get to visit with DarthCorgi, gcstomp

MCMiles and Mark Haspel. I did pick up this TOS 16 from boardie pastandpresentcomics.

I had animated this comic several years ago and had been looking for an affordable copy

so I was a happy camper.

Local legend Tom Raupp hooked me up with a cool cartoonist mag too.

Next: The Videos. :ohnoez:

Episode 1

This is random footage of the show to give you an idea of the festivities. There was

something for everyone here from Golden Age to Modern comics, Toys, Costume

contest, Drawing contest, Artist and Panels. I tried to put subtitles in to help identify boardees and artists.

Of course the latest thing is the Gangnam Style dance and Darth Vader was leading the

way.

Next: TupennyConan's hard hitting interview with JiveTurkeyMoFo.

Episode 2

Two men, a microphone and the truth.

The convention floor came to halt as attendees were riveted to every word.

You will weep, you will laugh, your life will never be the same.

Notice Mark Haspel quickly leaving the scene. :)

Apparently, my bribe offer was not enought to get you to destroy that footage.

Neil is definitely the STAR! :D

Lord knows I was so busy that I wasn't even trying to ham it up!

Kind of glad the 5 minute ad lib in the beginning of Ben Templesmith's panel DIDNT get filmed.

I intro-ed dude and he walked in through the sliding glass door and proceeded to cruise straight through room and out the front exit. I thanked everyone for the ten dollars they spent on the show and said we'd see em next time!

After a beat Templesmith came back in started his panel but engaged me in a furious ad lib from which I couldn't really escape. I eventually bandied enough call and response around that he allowed me to roll out, but for a moment I was a deer in the headlights, lol

He's a witty fellow.

Programming for TBCC is going to include Ben Templesmith in another panel entitled

"Happy Hour With Ben Templesmith" and will feature hotel cocktail waitresses. :o
