ASM Modern covers.. regular cover vs. variants

In terms of value and collect-ability, is cover art for variant issues and the regular cover held in the same regard?

 

I am looking to see if I can purchase a modern ASM cover, but I see SO many variant covers, not sure what to do.

alxjhnsn, of course that is always the answer. I guess I am wanting to know if there is any difference in owning the actual cover vs. a variant. I would not buy anything that I didn't like or or could afford.

Yes.

 

The artist is the only difference maker in terms of value and collect-ability.

I've never heard of a strong bias for or against the main cover or the variant of any given issue. I suspect that the artist has much more impact.

Yup, I agree with Alex and Shemp.

 

Think about it, a very memorable comic comes out. The regular cover is by john smith, unknown artist. The 1:10,000 variant cover, which very people have even seen, was my Jim Lee.

 

It's a no brainer which OA would be worth more.
