J.I.M. 103..... grade this!!

I like the look of the book. But on my monitor, it looks like it has had some color touch up. Hopefully I am wrong. If no touch up it is in the 8.0-8.5 range

If it is restored I would go a apparent 7.0

It has not been touch at all, but where do you see any color touch ups??? confused-smiley-013.gif

No. What you're probably mistaking for color touch is JPEG artifacting that is exaggerated in the red and yellow portions of the cover because the image is too heavily compressed (it had to be sqeezed small enough by the poster to be added as an attachment).

Also, I'm confused as to why you would give the book a lower apparent grade if it were, in fact, restored. That's the whole point of an apparent grade. It LOOKS like it is in x.x grade. If you think the comic is an 8.0-8.5, why does it automatically only look like a 7.0 if it were restored? confused-smiley-013.gif

Nice book, Bag Man! Hard to say because of the heavy compression, but my guess is about 7.5, give or take .5. thumbsup2.gif

Just saw the back cover scan, and I agree (again). Damn Nikos and UV to making both of us team captains! 893frustrated.gif

I'm hoping for a 7.5 or up........ 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

It's tough to say for sure from the fuzzy front cover scan, but you're at least in the ballpark. thumbsup2.gif

I try not to over grade on my comics and just figure out the major defects and look at the rest of the minor ones and estimate it's grade..... 893crossfingers-thumb.gifthumbsup2.gif

From what I can see, I think it's an 8.5 to 9.0.

Now I have a tendency on theses boards to overgrade a notch or two, not because I'm an overgrader, but because I only grade based on what I can see (and don't assume any other defects).

From what I can tell, the book has several very light spine stress lines (but none look to be very long or deep) The overhang bends but does not seem to break color, therefore I don't believe CGC would downgrade for this (I have seen much worse looking overhangs on 9.2 books). The corners look sharp.

The back cover has a blemish? which if it's a tear, would cause me to downgrade the book a little more. Realize in general, the back cover has very little effect on the grade, unless it's significantly worse than the front. I seen / have many 9.2 and 9.4 books that clear have more wear on the back cover than the front.

Am I missing something, that the 7.5 graders see?

Actually I thought the overhang does break color and given the number of spine stresses I had to give it a 7.5. Other wise the cover is in very good shape.

Point taken. For me, it's the wear to the ULC front cover, and spine stresses. If you look closely at the back, you get a better sense of the severity and number spine stresses. That mark on the back is also a little worrisome to me. Because of that, I don't see it scoring an 8.5 or 9.0.

Again, though, the image is very heavily compressed, so I'm having to make even more of an educated guess than usual.
