kimik
The XMen 94 price action makes sense in comparison to GSX 1. Right now $1500 gets you a 1.5 GSX 1, and 0.5 with back cover missing is $1000. Soon we will likely see completely coverless GSX 1s starting at $1000. aardvark88 and WolverineX
dikran
Holy moly! Couldn’t find it on eBay... maybe a dealer sale? But that’s quite a jump if it’s a legit sale! Been very bullish on this book even at 2k.

There have been 50 Godzilla movies but who knows? I think this is a legit key, particularly for a 9.8, as a comic book for sure, but in general too. It really doesn't matter that Godzilla started out as a movie for purposes of evaluating Godzilla #1 (1977) as a key. Playboy #1 is a key, oh yes it is, and Beatles #nn (1964), and they weren't even comics. The staying power of Godzilla, both in movies and animation, has been remarkable. He keeps coming back on the big screen with legitimate success, especially the last decade. Putting ourselves in 1977, why wouldn't a true comic book fan want a popular pre-existing cultural phenomenon like Godzilla reduced to comic book form? If you enjoy stories best in comic book form, the powers that be made Godzilla #1 et seq. for you! Glad they did. There is no doubt whatsover that Scooby Doo #1 (Gold Key) and Star Trek #1 (Gold Key) are keys (pun intended!) because of the enormity of their effect (still ongoing!) on pop culture. People forget that Scooby Doo and Star Trek were not only heavyweights of the big screen and TV for many decades and counting, they both had long-running comic books with multiple titles/volumes until just a few years ago. Over 50 years later, they STILL issue mini-series comics or one-offs from time to time. So naturally Star Trek #1 is an important SA key, and Scooby Doo #1 is a top BA key, and of course it helps that there are very few ST#1s and SD#1s available, especially in high grade. Godzilla's been around since 1954! So yup, Godzilla #1 is a key getting some long overdue attention. The first hit on Google for the movie is yesterday's New York Times article: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/04/movies/godzilla-vs-kong-box-office.html The title: ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Roars at the Box Office With $48.5 Million Ongoing big screen success translates into appreciation of related comic books. That must be among like the top three rules of Comic Book Spec 101. if this recent success is just another more recent confirmation of Godzilla's staying power, Godzilla #1 could still be undervalued. If Powerpuff Girls #1 (2000) in 9.8 can almost triple in value since 2020 (almost 200% increase!), then certainly Godzilla #1 in 9.8 can go from $700s to $900s (less than 30% increase!), especially after a successful opening-weekend movie box office? And come on, it's Godzilla. GODZILLA! It's always felt undervalued to me. Edited April 6, 2021 by Pantodude Lazyboy and musicmeta 1
