Question re. CGC Encapsulation Process

32 posts in this topic

Hello,

I'm a new member, having joined as a premium member. I'm a private collector, getting back into the hobby after a several-year hiatus, and I'm eager to submit my four best books for CGC grading!

I've been doing some research over the past 24 hours, and in a handful of articles and even a few ebay listings, I've seen reference to cotton microchamber paper being part of the standard CGC "slabbing" process. Having researched the archival properties of this paper, I think this is an awesome benefit, and it helps justify the steep price tag of slabbing. However...when reviewing the actual process on the CGC website, the encapsulation description doesn't mention the paper at all.

Has insertion of the cotton microchamber paper into all slabs been discontinued? Is it still included, but is simply not mentioned? If the paper is not part of the standard slabbing process, is it still available as an "add-on" for an extra charge? I've sent a personal message to the CGC FAQ section, but have received no reply (yet).

I appreciate any help and advice!!

Regards!

If my memory is correct, they do not put the microchamber paper in all books. I think I've read where people were cracking out books and not finding microchamber paper.

I have seen several books cracked out of their slabs and the amount of micro chamber paper ranges from two pieces, to one piece, to no pieces.

Thanks for validating my memory. I'm unsure if we ever got to the bottom of missing microchamber paper.

I can clear that one up for you. It's missing because it was never there. :gossip:

I've cracked out a fair number of books over the last few years and I've never come across one that did not have have the micro chamber paper. One sheet front, one back.

Not saying it never gets forgotten as others have found it missing. But it's customarily used.

No.

Sometimes you can hold the book upside down and GENTLY tap the book opposite the paper and get it to move back in. But not usually and it's more important not to damage the book or holder than it is to not see the bottom of the microchamber paper.

micro chamber paper rangers

I remember watching that show on Saturday mornings :cloud9:

The one with the pink fibers was cute. :cloud9:

In the first movie - the one with Ivan Ooze as the villian - she was hot....
