Congrats to Divad! (worship)

Someone is obviously paying for the stated grade, but I would never suggest rolling the dice on a raw 9.8 no matter how nice it looks as depending on the day at CGC it could just as easily come back as a 9.6 as it could hit 9.9. lol

As I packed it last night, I (as always) had seller's remorse. On closer inspection, the book has a serious chance at a 9.9 - not a single flaw. :sumo:

It's not a 9.9, It's a 9.8. might even be a 9.6 with the way CGC has been latley, getting back surefire 9.8's as a 9.6...can't find a single thing wrong! CGC says 9.6, starting to think CGC is trying to make sure they don't hand out to many 9.8's.

It's their way of guaranteeing continuing submissions. They have their "loose" periods where everybody gets ecstatic by getting higher grades than they were expecting coming back. Then they "toughen" up their standards for a few months, enraging people by giving grades that were much lower than expected.

The genius of this plot, they know that once word gets out that they're in another "loose" phase, everybody and they momma is going to re-submit the books that were under-graded in the first place. lol

Admit it, you've all fallen for it. You get the under-graded books back, steam over it, then when word comes out that they're loose again, you re-submit the book, and then are over-joyed by the grade bump.

The true "suckers" in this instance are the re-submitters, because CGC got them to pay grading fees not just once, and sometimes, more than 3 times, just to get the grade the submitter felt the book should have gotten the first time. lol

It's divad's auction. Kudos to him. But anyone paying $125 for that book raw needs their head examined lobotomized.

:insane: Well, based on current slabbed sales, I still left quite a bit on the table.

Congrats. No tomfoolery.. just something that defies logic. UnteL.

Well, I put as much faith in my grading (if not more) as I do in CGC's

I don't fall for this, some guys shell out 30, 40 50 dollar resubmits to try and get a grade bump. I just prescreen everything, whatever comes back 9.8 I see slabbed, whatever comes back rejected, I sell raw.

True enough, but my experience the past couple of years has been this - submissions during convention season are delayed but loose grading. Submissions from October - March, tighter grading.

That being said, some bigger submitters like Sparkle City seem to get gift grades on a consistent basis.

The two factors that appear to be driving the fluctuations are the volume of books being processed and the experience of the graders. A couple of years ago when some of the long standing and experienced graders left there was a noticeable soft period as the new graders learned the system.

TT44 9.8 ended last night @ $330. It looks like the same guy won them both.

I wanted the newsstand version bad but my max on it I decided earlier was $310

If you are chasing newsstand editions, wait for the Canadian one instead. Likely the same price but print run should be 10% of the US version.

Groo comics seem to be heating up a bit, the prices keep rising on Destroyer Duck, Starslayer, and Pacific's in 9.8. I can't say what raw copies are doing but personally I think it's about time as Groo is one special mendicant...

There is a mark Jeweler Version of this book as well. It's probably more rare than the canadian version ( id guess 5% of the US run, they are pretty hard to come by ).... Although MJ books have never gotten their fair shake. I guess because it's not a " cover" variant. I have a copy, but it's only a VF on a good day. MJ books in high grades are impossible.

I already have a US 9.8 direct and a CAD 9.8 NS. Trying to finish off the trifecta with a US NS.

The print run on books distributed to Canada should have been ~10% of the US to start with based on population, so 10% (for CDN newsstand) of 10% = ~1% of US print run.

That being said, I would agree that the MJ books are likely harder to find in HG. I have picked up way more 9.0+ CDN newsstand books than MJs over the years.

Either sell when Nightwing is officially confirmed for Man of Steel 2 or hold until right before the movie premieres.

Now with multiple sales breaking $300 I think it will have no problem sailing up to the 400 dollar range.

As far as ceiling, I really see $1k being tops for CA books in the near future, because at that point people ask themselves if they really would pay 4 figures from a book for the 80's and submissions skyrocket with people hoping to strike pay dirt. (See BA12.) That being said I am fairly confident we will see many of the bigger CA keys rise to healthy prices in the $400-600 dollar range and maintain them in the next year or two.

This is not necessarily true. I have had several MJI books fall into my lap in HG. Many of them were in collections with non-MJI copies of the same issue. My observation has been that the MJI copies are often higher grade than their non-MJI counterparts. Hard-stock CFs prevent spine bends.
