81 posts in this topic

I ship a lot of heavy stuff internationally and Priority Mail International Flat Rate has always been the most cost effective way to do it. These are some hefty increases....

Canada

Flat Rate Envelope $13 soon $20 +54%

Med Flat Rate Box $33 soon $41 +24%

Large Flat Rate Box $40 soon $54 +35%

Rest of World

Flat Rate Envelope $17 soon $24 +41%

Med Flat Rate Box $48 soon $60 +25%

Large Flat Rate Box $61 soon $78 +28%

First Class Mail International is also up on average 50+%

Of course domestic prices are going up also, but they are in the order of 6%

I stopped shipping ebay items via USPS International last summer.

1. Tracking system is pre-internet in efficiency.

2. Expect up to 8 weeks for delivery.

3. Expect unhappy buyers leaving you negative feedback.

4. Best Match status will be forfeited.

To be fair I have found their service reliable (and I've been buying on ebay for over a decade). The tracking system does leave a lot to be desired however, as you said.

Depending on what you sell on eBay you are just fine selling to the US only. I always get a kick out of eBay trying to say you are leaving a ton of money on the table by not selling abroad.

I haven't sold via eBay outside of the US in almost 4 years and will continue to only ship domestically.

I don't mind working with board members that are abroad but otherwise it is just too much of a headache to a ton of countries when it comes to shipping and custom paperwork. Especially if your local post office is full of insufficiently_thoughtful_persons that don't understand how to ship stuff internationally like mine.

This may be true for heavy supplies and whatnot, but for comics there are many cheaper and safe ways to ship internationally that do not involve the words "Priority" or "Flat Rate."

My Priority Mail shipments to UK, EU countries, OZ, NZ, and the rest of the Pac Rim usually arrive around the two week mark, sometimes three if customs is being especially cumbersome. Canada is slightly quicker.

Never any problems with unhappy buyers.

I had one 15 lb package of Mylars and Microchamber go to a collector somewhere in the Pac Rim last year that was shipped back to me a few months later because they could not deliver it. At NO charge! Of course they probably put it on a boat to get it back to me rather than via air, but I was still amazed.

When I started buying comics here on the boards in 2002 the Flat Rate Envelope was $8 ... that's a 300% increase in 10 years. hm
