Five Ghosts

Just want to reiterate--I physically only ordered 210 of the ECCC variants from the printer.

So yes, there are only 210 of them in human existence, from now until the end of time.

The NYCC print run was a little over 60.

The San Diego Ashcans? Those were only about 35.

Well, there you have it from the best source possible.

If you take that into consideration and start with 210 ECCCs, then factor in how many qualified ones there are you'll see it's fairly evident there are very few signature series and even fewer universals out there circulating. That makes it alot rarer than previously indicated overall.

Frank: any idea how many of them were numbered/signed or both without CGC oversight?

Frank,

The answer may be obvious but I thought I'd ask anyway:

What's the deal with Endless West being on hiatus? Is it because you and Chris have too much work on your plate with five ghosts?

It reminds me alot of Garth Ennis' "Just a Pilgrim"....seems like it has alot of potential as well.

How are back issue sales on issue 1 and 9.8s currently?

Probably the best way to answer that is to put up a few listings from the Bay. From memory however, there have been modest (sometimes double cover) but steadily increasing $ sales on the regular raws. (Don't quote me on that because it's all coming out of my extraordinarily damaged/addled brain.) The phantoms have been known to go for a bit more (If I'm not mistaken 2-3x cover). The slabs haven't really been available until recently, with the first being ECCCs and Yellows.....a few Universal blues are popping up here and there. I'll do some digging and post a few listings here (unless someone beats me to it first).

I'll say this however: it appears quite a few titles have been moving rather slowly for inexplicable reasons in the secondary market. There have been slight but noticeable dips in TOT, Fatalle, NWM, Saga, etc.....hell even Sixth Gun has cooled off appreciably. Nothing appears to be exempt from the lull.

If you haven't noticed alot of the regular threads here on CGC have been slowing down as well. Maybe it's the better weather.....who knows.

Anyway, I'd expect to see some more interest/movement overall as we approach the fifth issue.

I'll try to get back here with some data later.

I attempted to focus only on single issues first print of #1 regular and then phantom. There's many 'combined' auctions and BIN on Ebay, like "five ghosts megaset" and "regular issue + phantom". Also there appears to be alot of coupling with other comics such as East of West. So ultimately to determine pricing for five ghosts alone proves a bit trickier than you'd expect. Anyway

nowhere near a complete list, but some quickies from Ebay:

+1. First thing that popped into my mind too. Whether its true or not is another question altogether and one that should require some research and data.

Generally speaking - the convention season doesn't seem putter out internet sales until late Aug/September. It begins to pick back up around November and is a force in January.

It would seem the convention season going strong just influences those not at the conventions to seek their goodies online as well as focusing dealers to the internet to pick up issues they can't keep in stock.

Even during the con season folks post here regularly. The threads I subscribe to across the board from Golden age thru modern have slowed to a crawl. Pretty much nothing but tumbleweeds and crickets.

Like I said before: inexplicable slowdown across the boards. Maybe attributed to cons....maybe the weather....just part of the natural ebb and flow. One thing's for sure: nature isn't static. Before you know it this joint will be crawling again with activity (not the comic 'The Activity' because that sucks apparently).

What happened to this book? It got 82 pages of discussion and than it's page 3 news? This is way better than some of those other books out there. :ohnoez:

Just waiting on the NEXT issue. :)

mess even slowed down to a crawl in the NWM thread because of delays......you can only talk about 2 issues of five ghosts so much....lol.

Wait until we get to issue 5 on the cusp of issue 6. Things will have a much more defined mythology and universe to discuss.

I know Frank indicated here previously that alot of the questions posed about five ghosts will begin to be revealed by issue 3. So I'm eagerly awaiting it along with you.

I did mention in the modern speculation thread that as per email from Chris Mooneyham that he and Frank are in the midst of preparing for this to be an ongoing. I mentioned this before in this thread after seeing Frank at a signing recently....but from the very start and first time I met him both he and Chris mentioned they'd enjoy telling more stories in the realm of five ghosts....it just depended on sales and reader interest.

Clearly that's there, so the ball is rolling in that direction.

So i am looking at the new CGC census, it seems there are only 26 total graded ECCC books graded. There 7 non SS, compared to 19 SS books, not that many from a 210 print run. Any thoughts?

I mean, if you want me to gush about the book I can go panel by panel. ;)

Gush away. I've been gushing since it hit the stands day 1. I'm afraid I've made a mess of my entire room....lol. :)
