50's Rockets/Robots from Comics baby room theme

12 posts in this topic

My girlfriend and I are expecting a boy in early November (maybe late October) and are in the "let's get the room together" stage which starts with a theme. I sort of half- suggested rockets and robots and she actually liked the idea. I showed her my Weird Science Fantasy #27-29 (see #29 below) focusing her on the rocket blasting off and she decided she really liked the idea. So I am 85% sure this is where we're going.

I'd like some other ideas that I can show her so, getting this on to a comic topic, are there any other covers or interior art that show a 50's (retro) Rockets or Robots theme that you can think of? Obviously not "horror" themed but space, planets, etc.? Her sister is a pretty good artist and will be painting the walls so I want to be able to show her some stuff. Thanks for any thoughts...

Oh yeah...many of LB Cole's GA sci-fi covers are classic retro space/rockets, and have strong use of primary colors that are so prominent in baby accessories. Got the Gerber Photo-Journal? If so, also make sure you check out Schomburg's Wonder Comics and Startling Comics runs.
