Guardians of the Galaxy news

That is NOT good news.

What's not good news? That they are making a Guardians of the Galaxy movie? I agree.

The movie is going to suck, the characters suck, and the comics series sucks.

This.

The 2008 series, the one they are using as the base for the movie, was one of the best Marvel produced at the time. Clever, sarcastic, plenty of self-deprecating humor. It got a lot of positive reviews even here on the boards.

And I agree with Drax not needing a great actor. His 2008 incarnation was not the most thoughtful person and grunting and yelling is he mostly did. I've never seen Bautista act but he's got the physique and maybe even the IQ to pull it off.

This.

I decided to go back and see what I'd said early on…

Is the 2008 series collected somewhere?

The first edition TPBs are expensive and long out of print, I believe. Marvel is rereleasing Volume 1 (1-12) on August 12. Volume 2 doesn't look like it's being released until December. Amazon

I bet I can find the singles for pretty cheap though…

Thanks for the info. Now I have a starting point.

Oh wow they're not cheap… I guess I'll be buying that trade :sorry:

I loved this movie, so did my wife! My absolute favorite marvel movie so far, and the best movie I have seen in years. Going to see it again with my 5 year old.

Is this for real?

Bonus Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Content With Shazam App

----------------------

If you are on your way to see the Guardians of the Galaxy movie or haven't seen it yet, you might want to install the Shazam App.

Marvel's "Agent M" on Twitter just let it be known that if you open the Shazam App during the Guardians of the Galaxy end credits, extra content will be displayed on your smart phone.

The Shazam app is capable of recognizing audio, and then when it hears the audio, it unlocks the bonus content.

----------------------

Hopefully, folks are not holding their smart phone up in the air and then having someone throw popcorn at them for blocking the screen.

Oh my!

And funny thing is I was looking up 'Guardians' the other day, and that movie came up online.

"omg," one moviegoer tweeted. "they started playing rise of the guardians instead of guardians of the galaxy."

I wonder how frequently this is happening.

Gotta love all of the new GOTG fan boys. This movies is going to suck, the characters suck, and the comics series sucks.

I love reading early posts.

It is interesting when you go back and read all the posts of movies that are DEFINITELY going to suck - and they make it big afterwards.

:whee:

lol, curious if Hamlet will manup

Kav did

There were more than a few posters with very negative opinions about the movie and / or it's box office potential.

A couple of them I'm sure we won't hear from - they never admit when they're wrong, unlike Kav.

Go back and read what I was saying--

"I'm not saying it can't succeed. I'm just saying that that isn't the way to bet."

"I'm guessing that a $450 world-wide million box office is pretty close to break even on this movie."

It sounds like they hit it out of the park. They managed to make a blockbuster movie without a lot of the normal things that make a blockbuster.

The fact that they succeeded does not change the fact that it was a risky proposition.

Boxoffice.com is saying 'GotG' has topped the 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' opening, making it a potential second $100 MM (+) for this year.

NORTH AMERICA: Friday Report: Will 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Hit $100M Opening Weekend?; 'Get On Up' Pacing for $15M (4th Update)

------------------------------

Friday, August 1 Update: Sources report that Guardians of the Galaxy amassed a stunning $11.2 million from Thursday shows that began at 7pm. That tops Captain America: The Winter Soldier's $10.2 million Thursday start, giving Guardians the best early bow of 2014.

While it's likely that this feat was aided by schools being out of session this time of year, there's no doubt that Disney and Marvel have a huge hit on their hands--not to mention a new A-list sub-franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

------------------------------

Friday Update #2: Multiple sources are reporting that Guardians of the Galaxy is pacing for a huge $38-40 million opening day (including Thursday night's preview grosses). If that number holds, and based on strong early word of mouth, we could be looking at the year's second $100 million opening weekend.

Please note that these are very early unconfirmed numbers, and West Coast evening business has only just begun as of this update's publishing. Either way, $90 million+ for what's shaping up to be the box office story of the summer (if not the year) looks like a certainty right now.

------------------------------

Disney executives that were involved in the Marvel merger must be doing a happy dance all the way to the corporate bank.

:applause:

The Marvel characters are on a roll,as they dominated the 2014 worldwide box office!

:cloud9:

Saw the movie last night and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The audience ranged from ages 10 to 70s, and everyone was laughing and having a good time.

Ladies love Groot - multiple "awwwwws" during especially cute moments

Bautista did a great job with Drax, (mostly because Gunn nailed the character)

I will be seeing it again soon.

So over on the blu-ray.com message board, they are talking about going to the beginning of their "Guardians of the Galaxy" thread and reading all the comments from 2012 when it was first hinted that GotG would be a movie in 2014.

These comments are hilarious!

Stuff like, "Marvel will bomb", "this will suck", and "this will be worse than Howard the Duck".
