Birth Month Books

9 posts in this topic

My 4/69 collection

When I first started collecting CGC books, I didn't pay much heed to the publish dates of particular comics. Then one day I purchased Amazing Spider-Man 71, and underneath the title 4/69 stood out like an old friend. Aha! Now that is cool. I was born 4/2/69...this comic came out the month I was born! After that, I looked up all the 4/69 books I could find on the CGC registry. Not too long ago, my brother sent me a link to a site that has comics listed by birth month! YAY...there were a lot I didn't know about.

Here's the link:

I mostly collect Marvel, but you can look up any publisher. Way cool!

I would like to get all of these Marvel 4/69 issues in a 9.6 or better. So far, this is what I have:

Amazing Spider-Man 72 / 9.2

Captain America 112 / 9.2

Fantastic Four 85 / 9.6

Incredible Hulk 114 / 9.4

Nick Fury 11 / 9.8

Silver Surfer 5 / 9.6

Submariner 12 / 9.6

Thor 163 / 9.8

X-Men 55 / 9.2

12 more to go!

I'm glad to have been born in the Silver Age, since so many of the Marvel titles were at the top of their craft. And that high grade 12cent issue is OH so nice.

You think Gemma / CGC would be up to create birthday month sets?

Would be cool, but probably a little crazy.

Happy Collecting, Collector Friends!!!

Although I've never actively searched for my birth month books, I do notice hem when they come available. It's a little tougher having been born in 65, but I do ave Strange Adventures 178, & GI Combat 112 from my birth month.

I'm sure i will get more as I add to my total collection, but I doubt I will ever try to hunt them all down, mostly due to the plethora of romance books that DC had in the sixties, they're nearly impossible to find in the higher grades.

Cool idea though

I have been thinking about doing this as well. Thanks to Mike's amazing newsstand time machine, it's very possible to do now.

That twist for me is that I really want to find a comic that has a date stamp from the day I was born. It's tricky, of course, because if you advertise you're looking for such a thing, scammers could easily just stamp the comic now to make a couple cheap bucks. So you kind of have to find them in the wild. After some resarch, I've also determined that the week I was born, Marvel and DC released most of their new titles the day before I was born. So I have found a few copies with a date stamp that is one day early. But so far, no luck finding one from the exact day. I am still hoping to someday find a date stamp from a store that was late with their shipment or something, but...

It's fun looking, anyway. Good luck with your project (thumbs u

edit: Hope lives! I haven't actually found the right date yet, but just a couple minutes after posting this I decided to check ebay to see if any new books with possible dates have been posted since my last visit. And I did find a copy that not only had a date stamp, but it was clearly from a store that received a late shipment - instead of a date stamp of the 8th like the other copies I have seen, this one had a stamp from the 22nd. So I know it's possible. Fingers crossed. :wishluck:
