Long story short. Garage sale. Asked "Got comics?" No. But got some mags you might like. TMNT # 2, 3 and 4 and this. How can you tell if its real or not?

Check the interior front cover - if the black background is glossy, it's a counterfeit, if it's flat, it's real.

 

Based on the condition and the front cover colors, I'd say this is most likely a counterfeit.

That's glossy :thumbsup:

 

If you want to be 100% sure, check out the splash page with Cerebus and the giant dragon - in the counterfeit, Cerebus is a solid dark figure whereas in the genuine #1 he's a grey-tone figure (with the dots clearly visible) with a dark outline.

Everyone is quick to say flat vs glossy, but that's tough for people who only have one version in front of them. Unless you've seen both to compare it's really tough.
