I am guilty of this a couple times. Receive a package and say, "Wha?"...then, "Oh. Oh, yeah now I remember."

.... I once woke up with a restored Batman 11...... I felt so dirty.... then I started to like it. GOD BLESS...

I've purchased comics that I thought 'what the hell was I thinking' but I was sober :eyeroll:

Ehm… Once or twice this happened to me as well.

Actually, the only time I had doubts I lost the auction, so I felt better.

Once I even retracted a bid, for the joy of the underbidder… :D

I've done some board buying and drinking....fortunately, I haven't regretted anything yet. I think I'm actually a smarter haggler when I'm drunk.

On the occasions that I have bought a very pricey book (4 or 5 figure...I don't do 6), I have had a celebratory toast with a nice single malt.

[font:Times New Roman]That's a Hannes Bok composition! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. >>> :applause:

Bok's art inspired my work and that of many other artists, just as Maxfield Parrish inspired his own.

He's the same artist who did this...

:gossip: [font:Times New Roman]BTW, I bought the Bok original when I was stone cold sober! (Honest!) >>> lol

oh that's mighty excellent Cat - Bok Rocks !! My copy of 'Slaves of Sleep' has been in the Calhoun household since just before Xmas 1956. My bro inscribed it Dec 25 and 'Daddy' (so signed) probably devoured it on Xmas eve (you can do that with a book and still have it whole) before inscribing it to JCC: 'From one of the Slaves to the Champ! Yule Tide 1956'. Strangely enough by the time I inherited the guy's head had been ripped off the DJ and that's facsimile underneath...

And of Elron it must be said: it's indeed a fast fun read.

Cat- you've inspired me big time. I don't read much fiction these days and usually have to 'work up' to something but found an online scanned version of this (the 50 page nov) and think I'll give it a go. I've read 'The Sorcerer's Ship' and know how well Hans painted with words...

here's url for novel

I wonder why they didn't have Bok actually paint the cover for the issue, given that he wrote the story...

I really should sit down and read this as well, I bought a low-grade copy at ECCC a couple years ago for all of $3...

[font:Times New Roman]Art almost always reflected marketing decisions by editors & publishers, barring deadline issues. For instance, the aforementioned Hannes Bok novella The Sorceror's Ship was featured in Street & Smith's Unknown Worlds complete with his illustrations (several of which I've included below), but by this time UW had transitioned from eye-catching cover illustrations to being generically indistinguishable save for the alternating monochromatic design supposedly conceived as a cost-cutting experiment by Editor John W. Campbell, Jr. ...

I feel like I need to start by standing up and saying "My name is bc and I have a problem...."

Wow, glad I saw this thread (I knew I wasn't the only one) !

After several too many pints of Guinness last Friday night, I sort of remember logging in to CLink.

Next morning, I was notified I bought this:

ht_2_zpsedf482cb.jpg

Not 1 iota of buyers remorse. It will be the oldest book in my collection. After the last few nights of checking out the other early Timely/Marvel covers, I may be feeling the GA addiction.

I was warned that beer was a gateway drug, but I never expected it to lead me to the back alleys looking for cheap golden age comics!

Guilty of BWI,
