I don't know. Maybe, I'm overreacting, but the Heidi Saha magazine and the whole history behind it kind of gives me the creeps. Between the pushy parents and the apparent exploitation of the kid, I don't think that I would even want a copy of the magazine in my collection. :(

Yeah, I feel the same way. The Heidi Saha story was not Forry Ackerman or Jim Warren at their best. I would feel very uncomfortable owning a copy of this magazine, knowing the history behind it. Being a member of the Classic Horror Forums, I learned quite a bit there about the sordid history of this magazine. Unfortunately the whole thread was scrubbed because it was too controversial.

Creepy is right. I had the hots for Heidi back in the day, but then again I was younger than her at the time and she was the "older" woman. Looking at the pic now, I can't help feeling a little bit uncomfortable (even though she's still technically the older woman right now somewhere).

It wasn't weird when most of us were the same age as Heidi drooling over her at cons. Different times, seen throughout the lenses of todays values (or lack thereof). I'd own one in a heartbeat if given the chance.

Let's see how many boardees have the Heidi. Here is my Heidi Saha with an actual check that Forest Ackerman gave Heidi's dad for payment for the magazine.

That magazine came out in 1973, why is Forry just writing a check for it 6 years later in 1979?

And why would a check for it be written from Forry's account instead of Warren's account?

Seems strange to agree to publish a mag and wait 6 years to get paid for it (and I think they stopped selling it in the Captain Co. ads long before that)

Maybe it's residual's? (shrug)

Very doubtful. If the print run was truly 500 as widely stated, that is a payment for the entire print run at full cover price, years after it stopped being sold.

I want to say the middle two letters in the memo section are "dn" (they read like "on"), making it "Fanzine down payment"?

Could Forry have been planning a flow-up fanzine with Saha's dad?

Man, looking at those pics on the back cover really make me feel uncomfortable. What the hell was Ackerman thinking of?

Well, maybe it's obvious, but he should have kept his fantasies to himself nevertheless.

On the contrary, I've seen teenage girls at conventions now that wear less than Heidi wore at the controversial show in 1973.

I have yet to see a picture of her wearing less than a teenage girl wears to a pool or beach today.

Unless I'm missing something, I've not seen any content from this book that leads me to believe that there was anything pornographic in it.

It was a book about a pretty young girl, marketed to young men. Probably far tamer than what you'll find in Cosmogirl or Teen Vogue on the shelves today.

While I'll admit I've not seen the entire book, I have yet to see what all the stink is about.

Uncomfortable? Possibly.

Pornographic? Puh-leeze.

I would agree that the mag is not pornographic by today's standards. But, it is exploitative.

However, that exploitation was not done by Ackerman, but by Heidi's parents over many years. Their delusions of her becoming some sort of Hollywood star or something shaped her early life. The Heidi Saha magazine published by FJA as a favor to the Sahas was, probably, the height of that parental exploitation.

Having said that, the Heidi Saha magazine is still a piece of Warren Publishing's history and connected to FJA. That and the fact only 500 copies were printed make it highly collectible (although, in my opinion, not worth this kind of money).

However, when all is said and done, I would not want this item in my collection of Warren mags.

The ad agency I worked for used to have a contest where the staff would create campaigns to get other staff members to sleep with them. The best campaign was chosen and the staff member won the contest. All in good fun, no one ever had a problem or sued the company. Can you see that happening in our society today? As we have become more progressive, we've also become more prudish in some ways.

In fact, American society has not become more "prudish," but it certainly has become more litgious. People will sue today at the drop of a hat! Thanks to the ambulance chasers and get rich quick mentality that permeate society, lawsuits are at an all time high.

I, for one, would like to see America become a bit more prudish, i.e. go to back to some basic morality. Your ad agency's contests do not fit in with basic morality - at least not my definition of it.
