2013 Phoenix Comic Con sketches & pics!

37 posts in this topic

First off, a special and sincere thank you to all who have served in our military this Memorial Day Weekend!

Once again the Phoenix Comic Con really delivered a crowd pleaser! It was just a terrific show with a great guest list! The whole convention center and downtown area really accommodates the fans and make this convention a special experience! I was great to see & spend time with old friends. Bjorn, John Searls, Torrey, the imcomparable Joel Elad and all the folks at CGC were just great to catch up with. I can not express what a great job Michael Balent and his staff did at this show dispite having a table about a 1/2 mile away from artist alley. Bree, Andrew, Cynthia, of course Michael, and everyone else working the table were just terrific!

There were some amazing sketches commissioned during this convention and I encourage everyone who attended to post pics of these beauties! Here are a few I picked up at the show:

First off we have the great Neal Adams. He's a bit expensive but well worth the price!

Matt Wagner was on fire this weekend! He delivered some fantastic sketches, here are two of them:

Kevin Eastman made a very brief appearance at the Con and I was fortunate enough to get a decent TNMT sketch from him:

Dan Jurgens made a rare convention apperance this weekend. I really hope he attends more Cons in the future. He is great person to talk with and can flat out draw Superman:

Natt Jones is one of the more under appreciated artists who attends this event each year. His commission list should be filled up before the show even opens. He never fails to blow me away with his sketch work. Here is his rendition for a Walking Dead 109 blank:

Let's just say I have a new found respect for those of you who put together jam pieces. Having to get everything worked out with artist and CAW's is just a nightmare. I was able to put this one together. The Mike Ploog Batman sketch was aquired about two months ago at a London Con. I was able to add a Neal Adams Green Lantern, Dan Jurgens Superman, and a Van Sciver Flash! I think it turned out really nice:

Again, post pics from the con if you have any. I will add some fun pics from the show later today! Enjoy!

My pull from Phoneix. Decided to hold off on Neal Adams since he will be at ACE in a few weeks and it is a much smaller show.

For the fist time in ages underground comix LEGEND Larry Welz attended a Con outside the state of New Mexico. I hope those who attended the convention took the time to meet Larry and his wife Sharon. They are truly amazing people. Though he was not sketching at the convention, John Searls and I were lucky enough to commission on a few pieces and picked them up at the show. Here is one of the "family friendly" sketches he illustrated:

What a shocker!

Wasn't there an Aquaman blank picked up as well?

Triston rules the day when it comes to Welz

Believe it or not, John Searls is the KING of all things Welzian. He just doesn't show off as much as I do. Besides, his Welz sketches are XXX rated and are kind of risky to show off too much. Thanks for the kind words though.

Lloyd, you are THE MAN! I had an exhibitor badge and was at Cheung's table just minutes after he arrived to the show and couldn't get on his sketch list. You got an amazing sketch and you were across the Atlantic! Kudos my brother, you rock!

Guys these are all cool sketches, but can you please put them all into Adonis's super megathread to cover all sketches for 2013. Adonis great idea is so that we don't have 52 or more threads going at the same time.
