Quick question... has a sales thread ever been locked?!

It has to do with how this country was founded. The pilgrims who came to the US came here to escape religious persecution (or so they teach us in elementary school) but in actuality came here because they were upset that Europe was changing and was becoming too "lax" from a religious standpoint. When they arrived here they conquered land through violence. Ours is a country founded on blood and steel as opposed to Europe. So yes we are ok with violence because yay but not ok with nudity. I know it is stupid.

I don't totally disagree with your sentiment, but you might want to rethink the portion in bold. Pre-America Europe was hardly pacifist. That just isn't historically accurate.

lol

Post Pre-America Europe wasn't exactly pacifist either.

You got to be kidding?

The Pilgrims (Puritans actually) came here to escape those pacifist Inquisitions huh?

:roflmao:

And Blood and Steel was the trademark phrase of Bismark's Germany (Prussia).

Then of course there were those darn World Wars, which the rotten Americans started... oh wait...

:ohnoez:

:preach:

I totally do not understand your post. Why would I be kidding?

I was obviously referring to the World Wars.

I was speaking to the first poster in that mess of quotes not you my dear man.

The one who thinks the first European Americans left Europe because there was too much peace there.

The 30 Years War sure was such a swell time.

That was an easy one. :)

When the software starts cutting off the first quotes and misaligning the quote names on the remaining quotes, then it gets interesting.

There's freaky nudity in that book?

I'ma have to hunt down a copy for myself. hm

So, out of curiousity...what's the difference in selling that and selling a Playboy?

Is it general nudity that's frowned upon, or is it just freakish nudity?

I believe I asked what were in the links at the beginning, I think I was ignored. Someone else mentioned it too, but it seems to be more fun to go off on tangents.

The answer to David's question is yes, sales threads have been shut down.

Can we stop yelling at each other over really silly things and go back to sharing things relating to comics?

All this I'm less sexually repressed than you are stuff, is going to make me blush one of these years;)

and that is a gender neutral blush.

You blush? lol

Check out my new sig! (thumbs u

What's it say? I've had sigs turned off for years so I can read the forums at work without my boss ting a golden egg when he walks by.

Is that the best you can do is call me a troll? Really. I will leave this thread.

:eyeroll:

I find trolling hipocrites like you patently offensive, and I will go out of my way to voice my opinion in the most Democratic, user-agreement compliant method I know of when people such as yourself rear their ugly head on this particular topic.

I am sorry that you are unable to answer my simple questions or formulate a cogent theory about your stance on what you find offensive while dodging answers with more questions. This is typical trolling behavior, and if the shoe fits...

Wow, I'm surprised to see you being so harsh.

Do you read super hero comics? Do you see advertisments in super hero comics? Do you watch TV? Sexuality is a part of every day life. Why can't we celebrate it?

I'll never understand why in the US we make such a big deal about nudity, and yet our kids watch incredibly violent shows.

I never saw your signature, so I am not referring to it, but "sexuality" is one of the most vague and abused words since… say – the late 19th century?

I also can’t explain northamerican thought, but there is a big different in a scene depiction where some kind of nudity is not intentionally put as an "arousing" element and a deliberately "erotic" depiction. Often the first is censored, and the second is not – unfortunately this is not algebra… :)

Violence is just a byproduct of an irrational use of passions, so as you see the things are related.

Said this, I always wondered why there are very sensitive words in english which hold no particular meaning elsewhere – like "hell" or "damn". In Italy, these words are totally innocuous.

My sig was a seductive girl in pretty much a binkini doing the hula hoop. It was nothing that outragious. She was a "film" star though.

Not true. She was in her underwear and the main problem was she was wearing a thong. Her backside was completely viewable. The angle of the shot was suggestive of someone filming her in a sitting position. It truly looked like any opening to short porn film.

Actually, that might be the only film of hers that isn't.

That is the problem with animated gifs is the highly suggestive state. Arch knows my stance on this subject.

Despite the fact that, in my place of employment, we show porn on numerous HD flat screen TV's and 90% of the people I work with are naked throughout most of their shift, I do empathize with your position on this.

Pictures that are created to 'titillate' or 'arouse', are going to cause some people to take issue with, especially when viewing them in public, around friends, at work, or other places where it's faux pas to get 'titillated' or 'aroused'.

I find there to be nothing wrong with the idea that someone is bothered by that.

Being publicly titillated or aroused, or just as disturbing, being thought of as trying to be publicly titillated or aroused can be embarrassing for some people. Not everyone has the same level of jaded indifference to certain images.

And not everyone is comfortable with being associated with displaying those images, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with their personality or beliefs, other than maybe proper manners learned or consideration for others.

A 40 year old mom might be a wildcat in the bedroom, but just out of common courtesy, if she was out in public on her smart phone and that hula-hoop gif showed up, it's not surprising she would feel a certain amount of self-consciousness.

I think there's a big difference between censorship and common courtesy.

when is "bring an acquaintance to work" day?

lol

I have ZERO problem with someone finding something offensive and against their personal beliefs. What I have a problem with is the "offended" poster stating that they like pulp sleaze novels and bikini-clad WW2 nose art, while taking the time to rankle people about their signature lines. And then not have the sack to defend their viewpoint, but ramble on with some lame version of the Socratic method just for the sake of being a troll.

I didn't want to be a complete douchenozzle about it, and I apologize to Boardies who have to sit and wade through my posts.

Nostalgia will soften the edge on a lot of stuff. Heck, the whole comic book hobby, due to nostalgia can overlook poor writing, poor art, bad coloring, Rob Liefeld in general, to accept certain books as memorable.

Having said that, some of that pulp stuff is still not acceptable to everyone, but I can see how it's more overlooked here than gifs of live porn stars hula hooping in the bare minimum of clothing.

As far as her approach to dealing with it, like much of what is publicly aired, would probably be better better dealt with in PM's. She may have had an issue with defending it in a public environment with a hostile crowd, as most of the male-oriented vocal defenders of it aren't exactly shy about stating their position. She would've been overwhelmed by numbers.

Neither you or I have a whole lot that probably offends us as far as images and certainly not when they involve attractive females, because we look at it, from the appreciation of it, of course, but also from a creative aesthetic as well. I imagine, like me, you've even seen one of these images and thought, "the lighting on that is perfect!", or something along those lines lol

But it can be surprising sometimes the amount of people out there who still just haven't had the exposure to these types of images.

Same guy - I wonder if he tried to post the same pictures again

Yep, then he ended the thread by calling out the unnamed Mods who were censoring him. :makepoint:

Normally I'm diplomatic, but these censorship rats need to be called out into the light.

What happened to the days when mods here were accountable and identified?

That was before my time, lol...you actually got to yell at them and call them names? I mean by name?

No Sha, he's misremembering. In 11 years The Mods have never been accountable or identified (excluding Dena or Gemma) in the manner he's speaking of. Maybe he's thinking of when Flying Donut does the VCC they give him a "Mod" title or someone like SoylentBlue in the Sig section. Doesn't Kevin_Boyd turn green once in a while too?

25 posts and you're familiar with 11 years of history?

Yea I filled him in when he was a noob..he asked me why my avatar was so prurient we got into a heavy PM conversation and I gave him an entire rundown of prurient posting in CGC history

You're right Sharon, you did ask that and I meant to answer and then forgot about it.

The photos were very small black and white. To be honest, I couldn't make out much as the images looked blurry to me but if the Mod states that there was nudity, I believe it.

Whether or not it was racy...

Thanks for the answer about a sales thread getting locked.

Sorry this thread turned into what it did. :(
