Calling former CGC Graders - Corner chipped off.

If a book, that is otherwise VF+ but has a non spine side corner chipped off (little smaller than half a dime) what is the effect to the grade?

 

Can any former CGC graders comment?

5.0 is too low and 6.5 is too high. I'd probably give it a 6.0 as the rest of the book is beautiful!

Maybe a 5.5 or a 6.0. I had a book that was a clear 7.5 but with a non-spine corner chip (half dime size) come back a 5.5. Because your book is otherwise an 8.5, it could come back a 6.0.

By the way, I just re-read and saw your chip is on the back cover. I think yours comes back a 6.5.

Thanks for your replies and link to the other thread - very helpful.

 

That is exactly what I am dealing with only it is on the top right (front cover). The book is otherwise 8.0-8.5. I would be happy with a 6.0 on it, which is what Timely was thinking.

 

These seems to be doable given the books from the other link. The page quality might also be a factor, Im tempted to say the PQ is white, but likely graded a OW. Still very good, this to me may push it more towards the 6.0 than a 4.5-5.5.

 

We shall see in a month or two.

I think a 6.0 grade is fair, because it otherwise appears to be at least 8.0.

 

6.5 is possible too.
