I've been on the lookout for a cover I really like - Journey Into Mystery #25. Well, today there were three for sale on eBay. BUT - although the guide shows them to be worth around $200 at a mid-grade 5.0, one is listed over $2K, one over $3K, and the other over $4K! What the h*ll?! Why not just ask $500K for them? If it's only worth $200, I'm not going to list it for $3K and expect to get any bites at all. They're asking JIM #1 prices for it, not #25. Or am I missing something here?

Estimated pricing levels for Issue # 25
$1,575.00 Gem Mint 10.0
$1,365.00 Mint 9.9
$1,312.50 Mint - 9.8
$1,155.00 Near Mint + 9.6
$1,050.00 Near Mint 9.4
$1,018.50 Near Mint - 9.2
$997.50 Very Fine/Near Mint 9.0
$945.00 Very Fine + 8.5
$892.50 Very Fine 8.0
$735.00 Very Fine - 7.5
$577.50 Fine/Very Fine 7.0
$420.00 Fine + 6.5
$315.00 Fine 6.0
$220.50 Fine - 5.5
$199.50 Very Good/Fine 5.0
$178.50 Very Good + 4.5
$157.50 Very Good 4.0
$136.50 Very Good - 3.5
$115.50 Good/Very Good 3.0
$94.50 Good + 2.5
$73.50 Good 2.0
$63.00 Good - 1.8
$52.50 Fair/Good 1.4

Yeah, I'm not claiming to be an expert on pricing a book like this, and price guide info for pre-hero books can be notoriously unreliable, but those three listings do look overpriced.  There are some sellers who seem perfectly content to keep books for sale online at crazy prices and wait for that one person who's desperate enough to pay up.

Since you don't seem to be fixated on any particular grade, and it sounds like a mid-grade copy is acceptable to you, you might be better off trying to find one raw and grading it yourself.  Some dealers (like Ted VanLiew of superworldcomics.com) have a great selection of raw books -- though I just checked his site and three or four others I buy from and could not find a #25 for you.

You might also have some luck with a WTB thread here on the boards.

Good luck and don't chase after a book unless you feel really confident that the price will only go up the longer you wait!

This book has gotten a fair amount of attention and praise here on the boards, so I decided to go after it in tonight's Heritage auction, and managed to snag it!

I now have #2, #3, and #7 in 7.0, plus a handful of others.  Picking off issues every now and then when I spot them, though still mostly focused on the long underwear books.

Great pickup. Ditko at his best. :applause:

So I decided to grab this book in the latest Heritage auction:

For obvious reasons it makes sense that this title would get much less attention than the ones that stuck around long enough to transition into superhero books, but if the CGC registry is any indication, there really aren't many significant collections of this title, at least not in CGC slabs.  The vast majority of the registry sets have only one or two of the 19 issues ... only @bc, in first place, seems to have made a serious dent!

:headbang: Beautiful pickup! I watched that auction and am so glad that you snagged it!

My daughter needed a new furnace or you would have had much more competition :)

Sshhhh - don't let on that I like this title.

I only collected issues with Kirby interior art, so I am guilty of overlooking WoF.

Our man bc does not suffer from such weakness!

Since I'm going to take advantage of the crossover service so I can add this to the registry set, hope they won't nail me for posting this "before" shot:

Have 3 others to submit as well, looking forward to seeing what happens.
