The Copper 200: The Most Important Independent Comics (1984-1992)

177 posts in this topic

Who are you guys? I mean, at what point does one think, "Hey, I should buy 20 copies of this thing."

When the market around you is going like gangbusters (e.g. Image Comics today when you read the modern section and all the flipping going on) so you can go buy bigger books that you really want.

It could be the other way, with folks that offer less than cover for a book going for 4x (+) cover value, but your excuse is "I just don't like to pay a lot for Copper Age books. There's too many of them out there"?

Oh, I thought you were talking about buying these in bulk back in the 80s and 90s, which didn't jive with the ages I associated with some of you. Figured we're all in the 40-year-old range, which would mean some of you would be buying bulk when you were 14-years-old or so. :ohnoez:

Okay, so here's a master list.

I've only included those titles with an issue number associated with them the first time they were nominated. I'm slowly moving the '90s books into their own list, but that will take awhile...for now, I wanted to get the list put together.

I'll eventually need to go back and attempt to explain what makes each issue a key or important in some way.

Whoa. That's a big list. I'll see what I can do about cleaning it up, clearing up why an issue is an important issue, etc., but it might take awhile (busy weekend coming up). I'd also like to get all of the '90s work out of the '80s list, but that'll come.

I didn't put any suggestions that weren't accompanied by an issue number. It wasn't a snub, I just didn't have time to figure out what issue was important.

I'm surprised at how many titles I'm unfamiliar with. I recognize the bulk of them, obviously, but there are still a lot that I need to get to know.

The 80s and 90s were loaded with amazing books, not so amazing books, and total duds. But man, what a great time to be collecting!

What was the first 3-D comic in the 80s? Perhaps that should be considered since there were a lot that followed and led to mini-resurgence.

Was it Ray Zone that came out with it? I'll have to check his site. With his passing, I'm not sure if it is still up and running. He had a 3-D comic book history section.
