The Copper 200: The Most Important Independent Comics (1984-1992)

177 posts in this topic

agreed..please delete the list at once. the 1st rule about the top copper books......you don't talk about the top copper books
I now you jest, and the list is meant to educate and support more than anything. But there's a small part of me that was like, you know, there are a lot of lurkers who don't know the first thing about comics and who don't want to learn...they just want the answer to turning a quick buck.

Luckily, good will prevailed. And here we are with a partial list. That's right, a partial list. C'mon, people. We need to get to 200. What titles are you sitting on? :baiting:

Either that, or trim the first list down to 150 and the second down to 50. hm

There's a handful of books mentioned on the last few pages of this thread. I'll add those in the morning. Before this is done, I'd like more information on what makes these important books (for those without anything mentioned already).

I've gone through and added a few comics, added dates, and where I could, the reason the issue is important. As you can see, we've still got some items that need dates (there's enough Flaming Carrot stuff that I dropped it and moved on...).

If you know a date for any of the italicized issues, please let me know.

Also, I'd like to add some info about these books where possible. What makes them important? Is it just that they're cool and in short supply, or is there something that makes them important like a character, artist, writer, etc.?

Why is there no Hellboy on the list? Next Men 21 for sure.

One page back someone caught this and recommended San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2 and Next Men #21.

May as well add Dime Press #4 (1993) since it contains the 1st prototype of Hellboy, with "Hellboy" at the bottom of the cover. And with HB: Seed of Destruction #1-4, these really defined him and associated characters.

So where does Captain Confederacy #1 come in on this list?

Don't believe it? Google it. It's real. I found a copy.

I have them all. Actually started with my Confederate Flag cover sub-collection.

Although some of the content would be considered risque, wasn't the storyline pretty decent?

I think this is done. I've added a few things like first Tank Girl, Too Much Coffee Man, Dark Empire, first X, and 300. I'm sure there are others we're missing, but we can add them as time goes on. There are still some issues without dates or information about why it's important, but I'm done researching these things for now.

Anyway, the lists:
