Yes, I use it and it's a great tool. Not to mention Firefox is hands down the best browser on the planet.

OldGuy, I have been a AOL user for quite some time and am fairly happy with it as I'm used to it. But I couldn't find a single reference to how much Firefox costs to use as your main browser. Am I to assume it's free? What's the catch?---there's got to be a catch. I'm sorry---what was I saying......oh yes, the catch!!

If I download Firefox and dump AOL, what will I be gaining, aside from the spiel I read on the Mozilla home page?

It's free and there is no catch at all, you don't need to even give an e-mail address.

It's open source software so you can do anything to it. There are literally thousands of "extensions" you can install that will allow you to do pretty much anything you can imagine and much more. Most common would be add blocking. Are there websites you like to visit, but hate the 10,000 flashing adds that they have all over the page? Then block them.

It comes with built in pop up blocking and cookie management as well. It's pretty much the "anti-AOL". I could go on and on for days about all the benefits of using it.

Have you got pie menus installed, oldguy?

Greatest thing since sliced bread.

No, I haven't. For some reason part of that page is blocked here at work. I have rights to view just about anything other then porn as an IT staff. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

What's a pie menu in simple terms? stooges.gif

You hold a key, and a pie-shaped menu of relevant options appears around your cursor. You move slightly in a particular direction to pick something.

The basic idea is that really common options like back/forward, opening in a new tab, closing a window, closing a tab, viewing an image all become options that are just a flick of the wrist away no matter where your mouse cursor is right now. It cuts down on the time you spend scrolling back and forth across the screen to reach menu items, and becomes really intuitive and natural.

Thanks for pointing out this very useful browser extension! 893applaud-thumb.gif

In gathering auction information for my database I have to look at a LOT of very small scans. I used to use a big magnifying glass to look at those itty bitty scans on my screen. This feature works SO much better and easier. I've switched to Firefox just because of this.

Two thumbs up!

I played around with it this weekend. After using it for two days I can't seem to remember how I lived without it all these years. 893applaud-thumb.gif

Yah, it's addicting. It's painful to sit at someone's computer who doesn't have it installed.

I recommend setting it to appear only when dragged. The tip about holding down the button and dragging in particular direction and then letting it up is a good one. It's much better than clicking then clicking again.

Arch, I'm running Firefox right now, but a strange thing has started happening...

I'm not seeing any of the emoticons, "lightbulbs" or linked/inserted pictures here on the boards. Any idea what would be causing that?

Other than that, I'm a HUGE fan and I loooove the pie!

Weird... it had this site listed on my "block images" page. Things are back to normal now.

Thanks, MajorKhaos! You're AMAZING! (Way better than dumb ol' Arch.)
