14. Keith Giffen & J.M. DeMatteis’ Justice League

13. Ellis/Cassady's Planetary

12. Bendis's Ultimate Spider-Man

11. Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans

2. Claremont/Byrne/Austin X-men run (108-143)

1. Sandman #1-75. I dont even like it, but I recognize that is is amazingly well written and should be read by just about everyone who reads modern comics.

OK so here's some of my non-traditional list.

Lone Wolf & Cub

Yusagi Yojimbo

James but great list nonetheless.

Jack Kirby's "Fourth World" titles--Jimmy Olsen, New Gods, Forever People, and Mister Miracle--preferably in publication order (which is how they're presented in the recent omnibus editions). Epic, visionary storytelling by the master.

Perfect? No. Essential? Yes...

Yes, a great list. I would also add the following:

1. Don Rosa Life and Times of Uncle Scrooge (best origin story ever! and probably the lengthiest, too!)

2. Englehart/Rogers Detective 470 - 480

3. Claremont/Smith Uncanny X-Men #165-175

4. Mike Zeck Punisher mini-series (1986)

5. Zeck - Kraven's Last Hunt

6. Dave Sim - first 75 issues of Cerebus

7. Stern/Romita Jr ASM 225 - 250 (good fun and good artwork)

8. David/Keown Hulk 367 - 398

9. Eastman/Laird TMNT 1-10

Kingdom Come and Marvels are two of my absolute favorites. My list would also include:

Fables

Havok & Wolverine: Meltdown

The long Halloween

Hush

X-Force Vol. 3

And I know people aren't big on Manga but Blade of the Immortal and Berserk are great reads as well.
