For nearly 30 years, Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo has set a high-water mark for creator-owned comics.

Stan’s wife, Sharon, has battled a debilitating illness for some time; after an extended hospital stay and convalescence, she is now back home, but her condition requires 24-hour care and medicines that cost more than their insurance covers.

If you'd like yo help now-- You can contribute money to help Stan and Sharon here.

Donation Page.

The Paypal link is down at this moment but hopefully this will be resolved soon.

Checks and money orders can be sent to the mailing address on the page and there is info to donate original art for the auction.

Stan and Sharon are such nice people. It is so terrible!!

I know this board has some folks who enjoy his work as much as I do..

I hope even though this has not been bumped, that some boardies have read it and want to help.

I am friends with them on facebook and have been following the saga of her illness and his attempts to weave through the health care system AND fund her treatments...

If anyone needs more info please ask me..I can send you to the right people if you want to ask questions about donating etc..

every bit helps

Thanks for posting this Ryan!! I was afraid to since my stalker would take offense and start trouble seeing as they are an enormous jerk..

The Sakais are just lovely people.

Please help them if you can!

Check out Stan's facebook..he updates it often with not only personal items about the ongoing situation..but he posts his art too..and things he is working on.

I had heard that he was working through some personal problems. The Sakais are great, and Sharon was always very friendly at SDCC over the years. Glad to hear that she's back at home, but bummed about the situation. I'll be donating, and hope to see him at ECCC next year.

Dark Horse Announces The Sakai Project

Artists Celebrate Thirty Years of Usagi Yojimbo!

The most amazing artists in the world have come together to celebrate thirty years of Stan Sakai’s marvelous samurai rabbit saga, Usagi Yojimbo, in a new oversized hardcover benefit book: The Sakai Project: Artists Celebrate Thirty Years of “Usagi Yojimbo”!

“It has been an absolute pleasure publishing Stan’s work over the years, and recently collaborating with him directly on 47 Ronin,” said Dark Horse’s president and founder, Mike Richardson. “With the thirtieth anniversary of his most beloved creation, Usagi, and in a time of need for Stan and his family, we are honored to publish this tribute to Stan and his work. We are donating all of the proceeds to Stan and his wife, Sharon. We hope you will join us in honoring one of the comics industry’s shining lights.”

The participating artists bring their own interpretations and their own styles to the subject, making this book a one-of-a-kind treasure.

The Sakai Project is produced in association with the Comic Art Professional Society (CAPS). All proceeds from this book will go to Stan and Sharon Sakai.

WTF? All but three auctions gone.

(shrug)

I wonder if eBay pulled them. I've heard of them pulling other charitable auctions because they weren't tied to an ebay-approved charity.

EDIT: Beat me to it.

Well, that's annoying. Seems ebay didn't like that the original listings named the artists that would be coming up in future auctions. That's a weird policy.
