Shark-mas

Or, I did say I was getting some shark covers slabbed for my buddy for the holiday

For years neither of us received comics or comic related items as gifts on birthdays or over the holidays, so spontaneously one year we bought for each other what we REALLY wanted under the tree (based on our individual budgets).

While he cannot afford to pursue CGC books at the level I do, he does want to preserve a portion of his collection and he concluded that it was his shark covers that he loved most.

Now I, and Ronnylama, spend a portion of our free time checking for shark covers, both common and obscure. The five pictured below are what I picked up for him in the first half of 2013 and sent to CGC in August. Grades came in close to what I expected, and I'm certain he will be a happy collector when he unwraps these in just a couple weeks.

That's a great set and I'm sure your friend will love them. It must have been a blast hunting these down. Are there any checkerboard covers with sharks? That would be too cool, right?

You'd think with 500+ go-go checks that there'd be a shark cover, but no. Thankfully he doesn't collect gorillas.

I haven't gotten him any of the Tigershark covers, but that issue of GL is new to me.

Thanks Garlanda!

A little while back I was trying to find out more about infinity covers (where the comic itself appears on its own cover) and discovered that mycomicshop.com has a search feature based on cover theme. Today I checked, and "shark" is an option. It's by no means fool-proof, it seems to be based on some guy tagging the cover image, but it might be useful. Or, it might suck all the fun out of it if there's a shark cover database.

Here's one for Brandon Shepherd...

I assure you I don't get paid by mycomicshop.com, but I sure seem to toss their name around a lot...

I must be slipping, I didn't even think about this cover! Funny, various covers usually come to mind whenever various themes, journals and ideas are discussed, I have seen this Action cover many times, but it did not come to me when I first read this journal. Better get with it!

Yellow is a common background for Supes due to his costume, you are correct.

Red blue yellow.

Thanks for the two gogo check humor books, I knew I'd seen one, but I wasn't remembering it. I must be getting old.
