Two weeks ago, Cheetah said if we’re going to select Schomburg’s coolest 10 covers, let’s do it properly. In response I present a three-round process fashioned after DavidMerryweather’s and Miss Fury’s Funny Book of the Year selection. "Fashioned" is too weak of a a verb given that I lifted much of their wording.

 

 

PLEASE NOTE: Polls will be locked so you won't be able to view results until the voting ends on January 26, 2014. And you can only vote once, so don't get any ideas.

Refresher about the rules

 

FIRST ROUND

 

The first stage included cover nominations (204!!!), which ended several days ago.

 

 

SECOND ROUND <-- You are here!

 

Voting to begin 1/12/2014 at 5:30pm.

Because there are so many books (204), they are randomly divided among eight different polls. For each of these polls, please select the THREE covers you believe to be the coolest. I attempted to find solid examples of each book but the grades do vary. Note too, while I attempted to grab most of the images from the CGC boards, I had to consult other sites, particularly Heritage Auctions, to find some images. I will disclose the source of these non-forum images.

 

Please vote for the coolness of the cover, not the grade.

 

In close proximity to each poll is an album where you can view images of said covers.

 

The short list will be comprised of the 24 books (8 x 3) with the most votes plus ties. In addition, DavidMerryweather, Cheetah, and I get two saves apiece. That is, we can choose to include two books to the shortlist that would not have otherwise been included. (Thank you gentlemen for your contributions.)

 

Voting for the short list ends 1/26/2014 at 11:59pm EST.

 

Everyone can vote even if you did not nominate any covers.

 

Third Round/ SHORTLIST

 

Shortlist announced 1/29/2013. Soon thereafter I will put up a final poll.

 

Anyone can then vote for 10 books – first through tenth choices.

 

 

Final Note

 

Many boardies have argued that picking the top 10 Schomburg covers is a fool’s task. How does a GA fan pick amongst hundreds of amazing covers? This perspective is valid. Regardless, I hope you take this opportunity to learn about and appreciate some of Schomburg's best work. I know I have!! Enjoy.

You are fast Ciorac! Thanks for filling out the polls.

 

By the way, I was considering your former comment about nominating all Schomburg covers. Conceptually, I agree but there are so many (over 600) that I thought trying to narrow down from that crazy number would be (even more) overwhelming to boardies. Plus, I do think that the boardies nominated all serious contenders for the top 10.
