I currently have a 2.5. If I had been smart, I would have sold it for $50,000+ at the peak of the frenzy, and in turn, I could now use that money to purchase a 4.5 - 5.0.

Has my book decreased in value? It most certainly has. Am I worried? Not in the least. I have no intention of selling this book during my lifetime. My wife and my children can sell it whenever I pass on, and they will have to pay no taxes on the sale.

However, it is still worth more than double what I paid for it. And, for the record, I have an AF #15 CGC 2.5. Not a lot of people can say that they have an AF 15 in any grade. Low grade is better than no grade.

I wouldn't look back at the what if I sold it (and I know you aren't really) It's very difficult to time a market (comics/stocks/house etc). I think trying to time it is a dangerous game. I have watched guys sell a book to upgrade and the market double before the upgrade is secured and now they have to pay 5.0 money to rebuy their 3.0 book type deal.

And if you don't have a half a million to procure that 8.5 there is a .5 coming to CL in a few days. Ok it's mine. Hate to plug my own book but it's gonna need all the help it can get.:violin:

I don't even know if a 9.0 is worth 1$ million dollars.

I could see a 9.2 hitting that mark in this wacky day and age. 8.5, half million give or take, probably take, or give, whichever means the lesser of the two. That was just NoMan in a Euphoric State that's all. Which incidently is where I went to college.

A burst of sunshine here.  Aren't there (or at least weren't there) articles predicting a resurgence of high-end collectibles as stocks continue to erase gains since 2019?  So perhaps $ is moving from stocks and crypto to big boy books (to include AF15 in 8.5, which seems high-end enough to me).  In that scenario, an 8.5 AF15 might extend the $707K in Sept 2021 and the $875K in July 2022 to a cool $1 million in October 2022?  Seen in that light, a mere 14% hike wouldn't seem like a huge leap.  Ok, ok, AF15 just holding at the July figure would be the :yeehaw:scenario (for AF15 owners) in light of everything.

If an 8.5 AF15 cools to $500K, it could mean that AF15 is still correcting and/or succumbing to broader market woes, but even then, not more than other asset classes nowadays.  This would be the meh scenario.  At least that beats doom and gloom.  But what would that mean for a 9.0 chance at cracking a cool million?   A 9.0 sold in March 2017 for about $400K, well before any wackiness, and a decade and longer ago (e.g., historically) a 9.0 was 50% to 100% more pricey than an 8.5.  So even with a cooled-down 8.5, a  9.0 could still reach $1 million without much or any wackiness...if the historical relationship holds.  Also consider that a 9.0 could be more immune to broader market trends than an 8.5 and avoid a cooling down.

That leaves the :sorry:scenario.  Tempting to consider, but I'm [still] in a good mood and want to keep it that way.  (thumbsu

I agree a 9.0 selling for 1 million right now wouldn't be surprising. Where were those 8.5 sales of 707k and 875k? Couldn't find them. I only saw 3 8.0's in 2022 for 448K, 450K and 520K.

I think an 8.0 went for 610k. Maybe in 2021.

I can't find that either. I see one for 560k on 8/30/21 on CC. Right around the peak of the era of insanity.  I'm using gocollect. I'm just not seeing these huge sales. https://www.comicconnect.com/item/925735?gck=f7fe5566-cf9f-45eb-a9f7-95a278d483d7&utm_source=GoCollect&utm_medium=Growth_Partner&utm_campaign=Sponsored_Listing&utm_term=Amazing+Fantasy+%2315&utm_content=925735&tzf=1

That was from GPA. I’m in bed “sleeping” but a quick google found this statement by ComicConnect in an early 2022 listing for an 8.0:

An 8.5 Amazing Fantasy #15 recently sold for over $700,000.

So on CC?  Perhaps the 875K one too? Check the non-auction results if still can’t find them.

Hmmm.  I think I found the GPA's reference to the Sept 2021 $707250 sale of an 8.5 W.  Apparently, it was Goldin Auctions, but the total noted there (including BP) without logging in is $690K, so that's weird.  I'm not registered so I can't get more details, if any, like to confirm sale date or final amount, but here's the link:

https://goldinauctions.com/1962_marvel_comics__amazing_fantasy___15___origin_-lot109893.aspx

As for the July 2022 $875K sale referenced by GPA, I dunno.

Ok thanks. I guess we'll see soon enough with the upcoming HA copy. I do like you're optimism. I'm just thinking it's gonna go between 500 and 600k.

Gocollect chart says an 8.5 is in the top 1.6% of Blue labels. Didn't think it be that low. 9.0 top 1.1%, but that will surely go down over time.
