Will this get a purple label?

9 posts in this topic

I recently sent in an old GA book for grading, and the centerfold of the book had been replaced with a pages from a 60s/70s reprint. Normally, "married pages" get a green label, but if the married pages are from a reprint volume, will that result in a purple label?

I'm guessing no one has answered because so far at least no one is sure.

I will say that I believe the best thing to do with this book would be to remove the reprinted centerfold and live with what ever qualified grade you receive (along with a label notation of incomplete)

Because with the married, incorrect page you run the risk of purple label incomplete which will be a .5 grade.

That said, I cannot find an exact example to compare to. I thought ComicLink might have a book - TTA 27 - that would be like yours. It was listed as having "the wrong 12th page married". However - checking it out again the book also had a bit of color touch, so that could account for the restored label. But it was graded .5 - obviously because it was incomplete - because the book looks a lot nicer than that.

Here is a book with just the missing centerfold:

And here is one with an incorrect page married:

Hmmmm... that TTA 27 doesn't list the married page in the same place as the restoration notes, so maybe that's okay.

Problem is, I already sent the book off for grading. It didn't occur to me that that might incur a purple label until after I sent it. Very dumb, as I had already taken it out, but figured it didn't hurt anything and put it back in before sending it off. (I noted on the backing board something like "centerfold from reprint volume", but it should be obvious enough because those pages are much narrower (being silver age) and the artwork is shrunken down to fit on the narrow page. Plus, the pages aren't attached, either to the book or to each other, as they weren't from the same wrap in the reprint volume.)

married pages get a green label regardless of whether they are vintage or not.

What about this one?

color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cover cleaned, reinforced don't get a green label.

Yep, if only married, it would get green but with the other, purple trumps is my understanding. This is one of mine (married and trimmed )
