SteveC77
There's no real answer to this question. Some folks might have FF1 at the top of the list being that it's Marvel's first super hero team book, followed by AF15 "first appearance of Spidey"... Other than that it's personal preference. IMO all of the above books are ground breaking in there own way.
Chillax23
Agreed it is a lot of personal opinion but that is the fun part

I have never felt it was a true first appearance. I think your addition of ST 110 is justified, especially of late. I couldn't bump him out for DD 1 or FF 5. I still feel thats a better option for the top10.

telerites
He wouldn't make my top 10 but Sgt. Fury #1 should be mentioned. Demand seems to continue to grow for that book (especially in high grade).
seredynskib
Personally, I think there are 15 Marvel books worth mentioning as 'top tier' SA keys: 1.) Amazing Fantasy 15 2.) Fantastic Four 1 3.) Incredible Hulk 1 4.) Tales of Suspense 39 5.) X-Men 1 6.) Journey into Mystery 83 7.) Fantastic Four 5 8.) Tales to Astonish 27 9.) Avengers 1 10.) Avengers 4 ---------------------------------------- 11.) Strange Tales 110 12.) Daredevil 1 13.) Sgt. Fury 1 14.) Amazing Spiderman 1 15.) AGGIEZ
I think the prices and demand that Strange Tales #110 now demands puts it in the Top 10. I think it would bump Avengers 1 out...
Chillax23
No love for FF48 in the top 15? Gives not only the Surfer but also the incredible Galactus storyline
chrisco37
I think FF48 is a little too late in the game to be one of the mega-keys. I'd rank FF5 above ST110. Same with DD#1. Both Doom and Daredevil are (to me) more important than Strange. Same with TTA27. Just because it's old, doesn't make it "more important". Ant-Man is low second tier. I'd rank ASM14 and JIM85 above that (based on character importance). ASM1 is first tier mega-key. Marvel's flagship title (even if it is 2nd app). KirbyJack
Personally, I think there are 15 Marvel books worth mentioning as 'top tier' SA keys: 1.) Amazing Fantasy 15 2.) Fantastic Four 1 3.) Incredible Hulk 1 4.) Tales of Suspense 39 5.) X-Men 1 6.) Journey into Mystery 83 7.) Fantastic Four 5 8.) Tales to Astonish 27 9.) Avengers 1 10.) Avengers 4 ---------------------------------------- 11.) Strange Tales 110 12.) Daredevil 1 13.) Sgt. Fury 1 14.) Amazing Spiderman 1 15.) Tales to Astonish 35 I have always considered 14 books to be the Heart of the Marvel Universe, and these are almost they. I include TTA 27 OR 35, but not both, and I replace FF 5 with FF 4. Those 14 give you the key books that feature everyone who had their own successful series during the prime years of the Marvel Age. Villains are great, but I think the MU would be much the same if you removed any of them. Even Doom. If I were to include a 15th book, based solely on "importance/impact"; then I'd be tempted to add Rawhide Kid #17. The Marvel Age was a product of the magical collaboration of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, and RHK 17 was the first time the two worked together on a continuing hero series. Much of the House of Ideas' foundation was laid in those comics. Silver_Couch_Surfer
Chillax23
I understand your point on heroes being more important than villains, however, Doom is probably the most important Marvel Villain and to me has a much greater impact than the Submariner. It is also hard to establish the importance of AV4 - since it is not a real first appearance, however, Cap is a flagship character, the storyline is great and it really shaped the entire Avengers series. Perhaps I have it ranked too highly though.
BarryAllen
For the love of the game... 1.) Amazing Fantasy 15 2.) Fantastic Four 1 3.) Incredible Hulk 1 4.) Tales of Suspense 39 5.) X-Men 1 6.) Journey into Mystery 83 7.) Avengers 1 8.) Fantastic Four 5 9.) Tales to Astonish 27 10.) Strange Tales
Wayne-Tec
How about a different take...ranked in terms of both historical importance and modern relevance. This was off the top of my head, and I'd probably change it depending on the day of the week. 1) Amazing Fantasy #15 First app. of Marvel's flagship character. 2) Fantastic Four #1 The birth of Stan Lee's Marvel Universe. 3) Amazing Spider-Man #1 First Marvel-age crossover, first issue of flagship character's solo title, milestone for continuity. 4) X-Men #1 First app. of Marvel's most popular team. Seven X-Men brand films have followed. 5) Tales of Suspense #39 First app. of a Hollywood blockbuster character. Iron Man 3 out-performed Man of Steel at the box office. 6) Avengers #1 First app. of a team featured in the third highest grossing film in history. 7) Incredible Hulk #1 First app. of an iconic Marvel character. 8) Avengers #4 Return of Captain America, another milestone for Marvel Universe continuity. 9) Journey Into Mystery #83 First app. of increasingly-popular Marvel character. 10) Fantastic Four #5 First app. of arguably, Marvel's most iconic villain.
