New Ebay Buyer Problem - What would you do?

185 posts in this topic

i never assign grades. never. it's just asking for trouble. i describe it meticulously and might say 'looks like 9.4 to me'.

Assigning grades is a double-edged sword. Some raw books, I need to have a grade because I may already have a 9.2 and I'm looking for a 9.4, 9.6 or 9.8. There's some risk to doing business that way - but there's no real alternative when that is your only option.

I have no problem assigning a numerical grade in NM. I spend time grading books and trying to give an accurate description with notes. I figure it's part of my sales method, and if someone disagrees - well, then we just hash it out.

So the buyer wants a full refund, and he wants to hang on to the book? That's complete BS! I noticed a lot of ebay sellers will not disclose the grade of the book, probably for reasons like these. Sorry you got stuck with this con artist.

If you guys are going to see the book, it'll have to be the buyer posting a scan.

I went and got my hard drive and I have a scan of the other book I sold, but not this one.

I posted it a few pages back and the books were almost identical, so check that one out and see what you think it would grade.

that's why i had to block Slym after the Action #1 fiasco.

YOU ACCEPTED MY $6 COUNTER-OFFER!!!

:rulez::sumo::ohnoez:

-slym

as i explained in our lengthy back-and-forth on ebay, my kitten jumped up on the keyboard and hit the 'accept' button. you are well aware that action #1 in 8.0 is worth more than six bucks. of course i had to send it cause a deal's a deal.

Only thing to learn from this entire debacle - scan before you list. Now you ARE at the buyer's mercy. He could basically send you a trashed copy of Preacher #1 that he just picked up and get a full refund for your copy. You have no proof that whatever he sends you is not the book you sold him. Sorry man - don't see this ending well for you. :foryou:

I don't sell much on ebay so my 2c is probably worthless here.

That said if someone sends me a message saying they aren't happy with the book, first offer a full refund and ask them to send it back, refund the shipping too, what's $5 to get your $200 book back the way you sent it out.

If they start fishing for a partial refund, just give them 5-10% and block them, and move on. Unless we're talking about a book that's in the thousands of dollars of price I just don't feel it's worth the hassle.

thats what I would do and consider it my lesson for not listing properly.

If buyer is still on boards-how much did you spend and how much partial refund are you asking? answer will determine if you get unblocked on ebay by the community as we represent a significant portion of comic sales

Feel free to post some scans on here of the book in question.

Paypal will require you to send the book back before you can get a refund.

I don't know who is right in this discussion yet, but I can say this.

This type of case is on the rise. Just had a return buyer who purchased several books on his 2nd buy from me. Then emailed me that none of the books are up to his standard and admits he is picky. Now I took the books back and issued a refund, but in over 10 years of selling on ebay this is a first for me. Sadly, I think its going to happen more.

Thanks. Most retards would jump to a conclusion and call me liar when there are two sides to a story. I will post the picture later tonight after I spent time with my family. Here is his listing, http://www.ebay.com/itm/301094173402?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 notice how he posted a generic Preacher cover instead of what he's selling. Common sense dictates that if you took the time to type away a listing then a few seconds to provide a picture of the item is not too much to ask unless there's malicious intent from the beginning.

ps the same argument could be made common sense dictates you dont buy a high dollar book with a stock pic....

the use of the term person_having_a_hard_time_understanding_my_point and the illogical nature of buyer's arguments is leading me to side with the seller on this one.....seller got lazy, buyer seems sneaky/malicious.....

Agreed

For the switching book, if you provide large, details scans front and back of your book, will that help prevent buyer switching? clearly show what is your book look like and help for your case if you received switched book back?

I don't condone buyer with fishing for a partial refund, 5% is probably nothing but you are encouraged them to do more in the future to other sellers. Fight to the end, even if I lose a case, at least Ebay flag that buyer and if he/she continues to get flagged, account could be suspended.

So, I sold a copy of Preacher #1 on Ebay a couple weeks ago. The book was a SOLID 9.4 and I sold the book as NM.

The buyer only has 5 feedback, so a new buyer. I get a message saying that the book had a small spine tick on it and that he was not happy.

Is NM not a 9.4 anymore?

I send a message back explaining that when I sell as NM, that I don't mean 9.8. If I meant 9.8, I would say NM+. Right?

I said that I would be willing to refund the money as long as he sent the book back and that I would not be giving a partial refund, because I've done nothing wrong.

I get another message today saying he's not stupid enough to send the book back and hope that he gets a refund and then says he'll let PayPal handle it.

So my questions...can you not sell a 9.4 on Ebay as NM anymore because people expect 9.8s?

And also, what's my best course of action here. I sold a book as the right grade, shipped it and even offered a refund.

Thanks for any advice.

I can't believe you're the one crying after trying to rip me off. You didn't even bother posting a picture of your item when you sold it on ebay because you knew what you were selling is not exactly what you described. I still have the Preacher book in the USPS box that you sent I've left it untouched because I was so looking forward to finally owning this book and upon opening it realised that what I got I could find for a lot less at my local store. You keep spreading your lies because you know Paypal will side with me.

I now hereby prove this guy a liar. he says he 'left the book untouched in the box'. we're supposed to believe his eagle eye spotted a spine tick but that still didnt prompt him to remove the book for inspection and he asked for a partial refund without even knowing what the back cover/inside looked like. see what happens when you lie, dude? you never know what part isnt going to make sense upon reflection.....
