Which copper books cracked the $100 barrier...but not fueled by a movie?

The real value in Deadpool (and the NTT book ya'll are discussing) is the long term value. I set up as a comicbook seller at a small show at a local college 2 years ago. I was amazed by:

1. The number of college students looking for Deadpool issues.

2. How poor those college students were.

When they all graduate, get jobs, and some money, they'll come back looking for NM98. It's only a matter of time.

New Mutants #98 came out in 1991 1990. Shouldn't they be out of college 23 years later?

yeah, i don't have much hope for these kids ever having money (unless they all get jobs on wall street) given that i am 41, have a J.D. from a top 25 (at the time at least) law school, top 15 or so university and don't have three nickles to scrape together. was looking at job postings (i am employed, but it doesn't pay the bills, although i will have a great pension if i live that long) and it was just depressing. temp job after temp job and many of them want 5-15 years of experience. we have multiple admitted attorneys working FOR FREE in my office because they can't find work and don't want an experience void on their resume. this recovery isn't much of one for most of us and i'm afraid it's systemic. probably doesn't make a difference who is in office.

The legal field is particularly bad, and probably shouldn't be used as a barometer for the job market as a whole. Law school is a borderline scam at this point.

I graduated from a top 25 law school as well, and couldn't find a job to save my life. After two years of searching I gave up and got an MBA. Instantly employed after that.

I'm not a lawyer, but I've met at least one in my life (and work with 86 million of them). And for those recent/soon to be graduates who are able bodied and desperate for work (and relatively young), I recommend that they go to work for one of many federal agencies in law enforcement. Its better than nothing, and can give you the connections/experience you need to be successful later in life. Only problem is relocation (although for some that's a heckuva problem, but a better problem than going hungry IMO), and government pay isn't always great, though benefits are generally solid, but still way better than nothing.

I have been out of school 18 years. I worked at a biggish NYC firm for 8 years. 10 years ago I had a $200,000+ salary. I was doing pretty well, but I did not make partner and decided a stint in government would give me the chance to polish my trial skills and exit as a bona fide trial lawyer even if I was "temporarily" taking a 60%+ pay-cut. Well, "temporarily" has now been 10 years. I am now a bona fide trial lawyer, but employers do not really care as nobody goes to trial anymore!

I am quite employable, just apparently not easily at a salary that I can afford to live on or, if at a decent salary, with absolutely no job protection.

Anyway, if I didn't have two kids, childcare and a house big enough to house my brood in the NYC area I'd be fine, I'm just being whiney. Those kids getting out of law school are getting killed though.

That's the cover date. I think the actual release date was 12/1990.

Putting aside the krappy job market, the amount of debt these kids are graduating with from private schools is astonishing. even a state school can put you in the hole $30-$50K over 4 years.

The power of Deadpool was on exhibit in full force this past weekend in Calgary. Recent #1s (Marvel Now and recent Minis) were quick sales at $10, and we were moving Marvel Now #2-5 at $8, #6-10 at $6, and #5 up at $5 apiece with no resistance. Sets of Night of Living Deadpool and Deadpool kills Deadpool were selling for $25 (and I think Brian upped some of his to $30 and still selling them). Even Deadpool vs. Carnage #1 & #2, which is still on the shelf at every LCS in town, was selling at $6 for #1 and $5 for #2. lol

They released a February book in December? Two months early? I understand one month, but two seems odd.

I think two months is/was the standard for comic books.

Stress management services rendered by higher end escorts and "massages" are covered under our plans now. lol

I think it is just the convention effect. Recent back issues of WD fare the same as well - buy them from the LCSs off the racks the day prior to the show, mark them up to $5 - $8, sell them as fast as you can.

FWIW, WD Image Firsts #1 current printing were moving at $5 apiece as wel.......

Two to three months.

Hmmm, like buying a 2015 model car right now.

Somewhat, yes.

The cover date is the date that the retailer is supposed to PULL the book off of sale, and return for credit. It's mostly a holdover from the early days of magazine distribution.

New Mutants #98 was on sale around the week of December 18th, 1990.

I am confused by this. I thought Canada was a nation of well educated and prudent people? When is it prudent to pay $5-$8 for something that is available at any local shop for $3?

Anyway, sounds great. Good to see all that oil money being put to good use.
