How to Store your Slabs

66 posts in this topic

Since joining the boards, my Slab collection is starting to grow. At first I thought I would only have a hand full, from the ones I had graded. But now I've reached twenty. From graded and purchased. So now I have to start thinking about storage. I've been keeping them in a box with a piece of cardboard in between each one. Is this how those of you with large collections of Slabs store them? Is there a "Slab Box" that I can buy? Any help would be appreciated.

Hotflips is currently offering CGC size boxes at a rate of 5 for $35 delivered this week.

These are like comic book board boxes for CGC slabs. For my expensive slabs and GA books I lay them flat in small stacks.

I use em as coasters at parties. :headbang:

They are good to prop up that wobbly leg on the kitchen table too.

If you know how to balance them correctly we are talking the most expensive domino rally race ever created...

On a closely related question - how should slabs be "preserved"? Is the microchamber paper enough to protect the books inside the slab? Does anything else need to be done to protect the books for the long haul?

Great info. Thanks!

Kindly note that the article states the CGC slab is air tight and water tight. Sadly, this is NOT correct. It is neither air or water tight.

This is very important to note...

Correct - something went wrong when publishing that journal entry (I cannot edit it), but it has been corrected on page 4 *cough*

See page 3 also - so it is important to read the thread, not just the first post.

Best,

Maybe, but these options are probably better:

- if you need boxes, I only store books horizontally, thus corners are subjected minimally to the evil pull force of gravity :insane: (thumbs u

Ok, I am actually not kidding

PS. And no more than 15-20 CGC books in one stack, or the bottom book may get too much weight on it and risk holder damage. So incredible much hassle maintaining these books, sigh...
