70 posts in this topic

an excellent list, to be sure........... 893applaud-thumb.gif

hard to argue with these - i think i have 90+% of these books - just wish they were all in great shape.

i haven't thought about this for long but would definitely add Flash #123 (it won the Alley Award from Alter Ego for the best cover of 1961). it was the book that introduced Earth 2 where all of the JSA lived..............

Hey BB,

Do you own any Alter Ego's? The originals? I have the run from # 4 up. Wish I could find the first three,..... sorry.gif

Some other great Silver Age Marvel covers that might make a top-25 list:

Amazing Spiderman 28 - The all-black Ditko pop-art

Fantastic Four 12 - The Hulk, plus great tension

Fantastic Four 33 - first great Marvel photo-cover

Fantastic Four 39 - giant head of Doom

Journey Into Mystery 89 - classic Thor pose

X-Men 50 - Steranko (or take Strange Tales 153 or 167, if you like)

X-Men 56 - Adams has the baddie threaten the logo

Captain America 113 - my fave of the Steranko Caps

Thor 127 - Odin in emotional agony, holding his (apparently) dead son

Thor 150 - the Goddess of Death

FF Annual 1 - Submariner at his most regal

Fantastic Four 51 - This Man, This Monster

Amazing Spiderman 39 - Mid-air battle with Gobby

Tales to Astonish 77 - "Bruce Banner is The Hulk!"

Avengers 56 - Cap, with a dead Bucky

Along with #39 and #50, I'd add these to the list of best Spidey covers. #69 may even be my all-time favorite SA cover.

Here are a couple I had scanned and saved on my C: drive for some reason. Maybe next week while I'm off work I'll get my scanner software reinstalled and contribute some more to this thread.

In the meantime...

I am really enjoying all of the great Silver Age covers being posted here. A couple of my favorite Marvel covers from that era are:

A recognized Steranko classic:

And one of my favorite Kirby Thors:

Two more favorite Marvels. First, a terrific regal rendering of the Prince Namor:

And finally, a cover and story that shocked young, impressionable readers beyond belief, and a great example of how Marvel "broke the rules" of the Super-Hero (P.S.: I'm looking to upgrade this book, should anyone out there be selling...):
