R.I.P. Stan Goldberg

Veteran comic book artist and colorist Stan Goldberg died yesterday at the age of 82. He was probably best known for his artwork on Archie Comics, but he was also an artist at Marvel starting in 1949 and drew Millie the Model and Patsy Walker for many years. He was also the colorist for Marvel at the beginning of the silver age and colored most of the key silver age issues. His work also includes the pencils for the infamous Archie Meets the Punisher comic.

I was fortunate enough to have met him a couple of times and he was incredibly warm and friendly.

Me with Stan at the 2003 San Diego Comic-Con:

One of the few pieces of original art that I own:

Stan signed this copy of Marvel Tales #109 for me. I think it was the only horror story he drew for Marvel.

Sadly, there aren't many creators from the golden age left, and we have lost a great one. :(
