My suggestion is to get the Gerber GA books and flip through them. There are a lot of cool covers, but everyone has their own preferences.

 

Also, check the "Recent Pre-Code Purchases" thread for a ton of great books owned by people here on the Boards...

Fuel hit the bullseye with this one....

 

 

While the imitators may have put out some "cool" covers (art is subjective, so what is cool to you might not be "cool" to me).... for the "best" overall you want to track down EC's... and that is pretty easy and affordable with the plethora of reprints out there...

 

EC ... the "King" of pre-code "cool!"

Agreed... low-grade Harveys (Black Cat, Tomb of Terror, Chamber of Chills), are both reasonably priced and have a number of cool covers.

 

If you go to conventions, don't be afraid to haggle or ask for discounts on low grade stuff. Buying three to five books and asking for a price-break is also a good stragegy. Dealers are often very happy to get low grade book out of their stock since they tend to move slower than the high grade books.
