SPIDER-MAN Sony-Marvel potential deal OFFICIAL THREAD

351 posts in this topic

I'm already hearing rumors about Avengers #11 (1st Spidey/Avengers association) shooting up in price and the possibility of Sony/Marvel canning Andrew Garfield as Spidey and possibly using Miles Morales in the new joint venture. Time to snatch up some Ultimate Fallout #4s? hm

Most likely Marvel will use Miles Morales.

Spider-Man in the MCU opens up a lot of possibilities. As some mentioned already Venom as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy. How about this........ end of credit scene of the Punisher having his gun scope on Spider-Man (Amazing Spider-Man #129) leading into a Punisher movie. hm

Today is a good day.

I enjoy the Ultimate Spider-man comics with Miles Morales more than I thought I would when it started.

However, I don't see why anyone thinks Marvel would consider going with any movie version of Spider-man that's not Peter Parker.

I did like the suggestion mentioned a couple weeks back about Spider-man being masked and only Spider-man when it comes to any Marvel movie appearances, I just don't think it's possible for them to keep Spidey's mask on for more than 15 consecutive minutes in any of the movies.

lol

Agreed. Peter Parker IS Spider-Man and Marvel will use him in the movies. What would be the point of finally scoring the rights to feature your top all time character and then "not" use him in the movies ?

+1,000.000

If Marvel doesn`t use Peter Parker after all this it will be a bigger blunder, then the Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll not calling a run with Marshawn Lynch to end the Super Bowl.

More than anything, would love to see Jackman and RDJ going at it on screen...

I can't think of ANYTHING worse. I'd rather see squirrel girl fighting a Pizza Hut pizza than this. A 6'4" lean wolverine fighting a 5'6" tony stark sounds like watching the 90s Star Wars movies all over again. Like the sound of my 10 year old self hating that my 40 year old self was so close to Mecca, only to find out it was really a fire ant mound and I was covered in honey. Suck.

plus it sounds vaguely pornographic

I really don't get the love-fest for Tobey's Spider-Man. As a whole, it wasn't good. The only decent film was the first one, but it all went downhill from there. I refuse to ever watch any of them again.

Most are not realizing is that Marvel can now use any Spider-Man related characters in MCU movies or tv shows. Marvel are going to use Spider-Man characters that they can use in other franchises.

Example

Kraven having a cameo in Black Panther movie hunting in Wakanda

Silver Sable & Wild Pack hunting HYDRA agents / Silver Sable parents were Nazi hunters killed by Hydra (Great story for Agent Carter TV series) / Silver Sable connection to Dominic Fortune

Venom / Carnage you already know

Think like Marvel does. Spider-Man was just the icing on the cake.

A few articles have mentioned this now with regards to no extra investment from either company, other than production budgets.

LATINO REVIEW: Even More Info on the Sony/Marvel 'Spider-Man' Deal

-------------------

But what are the terms of the deal? Surprisingly, it's not costing either studio a dime. Marvel and Sony realized it would be better for all if they just shared the character.

Sony will get their solo Spidey movies, which may have cameos from other Avengers; and Marvel gets to have him in the big team up movies, with possible appearances in their heroes' solo outings.

As The Hollywood Reporter said, its all very "quid pro quo" with no money changing hands.

-------------------

So it is getting the franchise back on track so both studios can benefit from their individual rewards (Sony with new revenue; Marvel with a new boost on top of its strong box office results, merchandising revenue and comic book sales).

if a movie with spider-man appearance is a success, a collaboration from Marvels and Fox will build from that success. I am going for "Secret Wars" as next big thing.

I think that is what got Jackman all pumped up. The hope that the Marvel-Sony news opens new doors with Marvel-Fox.

But I wouldn't count on it for a few years. Not while the same negotiation leaders are still in place, and have hard feelings over their last contract engagement.

It sounds like Marvel was not completely turned off to Andrew Garfield at first.

Andrew Garfield Had Discussions About Staying On As SPIDER-MAN

---------------------

According to The Daily Beast, Andrew Garfield did have discussions about staying on as the character, but ultimately "it didn't make sense" to do so because Marvel are looking for a younger, high school age Spidey ('cos we haven't seen that before apparently).

LATINO REVIEW: MARVELOUS DA7E 82

-----------------------

Most importantly: When will we see Spider-Man again?

That will be Captain America: Civil War, which is shooting soonish and had Black Panther in what was initially Peter Parker’s spot: a character that is pre-existing in the Marvel Universe but was being introduced in Captain America 3 with the full blessing of Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr, Avengers franchise leaders.

-----------------------

So no Miles Morales?

I’m sure Marvel would love to, but considering Sony has creative control over Spidey’s core universe, he’ll never be more than a bit player in the MCU and Sony’s version will almost certainly be Peter Parker.

There’s the mystery of the other Sony “Spider-Man spin-offs,” I’ve heard Venom, Sinister Six and “a female lead” Spider-Movie, going forward without Kevin Feige’s involvement. That means basically non-canonical in the MCU unless it jives with Marvel’s vibe. Morales could show up there by the grace of God, but this first Spider-Man is going to be Peter Parker.

-----------------------

Go back to that “bit player” part.

Because Sony and Marvel don’t automatically get shares of each other’s box office when Spider-Man is involved, there is going to be a balance between these two large companies. Marvel doesn’t need Spider-Man as much as they need to push forward with their grand plan through Phase III. It’s nice to have access to the Spider-Man relationships (Hulk V. Spider-Man, please!), but he’s not going to be a featured character. Peter’s story belongs in a Sony movie where they have to build something for him.

Sure, Parker can pop up in Infinity War, but he’s not going to be leading the team or anything. Sure, Parker COULD pop up on the Netflix shows - but the Netflix shows might not need Spider-Man swinging around. It actually makes more sense to use Daredevil in a Spider-Man movie as the mentor who tells him he’s in over his head. Or to have whatever version of Captain America is around pop in and tell the “kid” to stand down.

Those aren’t things Marvel is concerned with. They’re more concerned with who that Captain America is and what’s happening in space and how all those MacGuffins get to Earth.

So even though Spider-Man is back at Marvel, sort of, the cooler Spider-Man things are still going to be happening over at Sony.

But if they're going to stick with Peter, what if the casting process went the Man of Steel route? After all, Henry Cavill was once going to play Supes in McG's Superman: Flyby. That fell through, but Snyder revisited the actor several years later after watching old screen tests. In that vein, what if the folks behind the next Spider-Man adventures looked at Josh Hutcherson again? The actor was all but set to play the character in the Amazing Spider-Man films, when Warner Bros decided to exercise the sequel clause in his contract and bring him back for Journey 2- thus killing his Spidey hopes. The Hunger Games star is only 23. Think he could pull off a high schooler?

---------------------

I never knew that before.

Spider-Man: Five Directors Who Could Take Over the Marvel Franchise

PLEASE keep Bay and Cameron as far away from this as possible.

Not part of this list, but after reading this I got to thinking what about Tim Burton?

Imagine the detail he put into it like his first two Batman's?
