1000 comics in 2015 book club

433 posts in this topic

However, Marvel Unlimited is an awesome app if someone hasn't checked it out yet. I know some of the purists will shame me for reading digital, but it really is a great way to read some of the older stories without trying to collect runs or shelling out tons of cash for multiple omnibi (omnibuses...sp?) as well as the newer stuff (it is about 8 months or so behind regular release timing).

1) at least you are reading comics, and

2) it perfectly within the "rules" here - check out the first post!

I'll see if I can stick with this thread this year. I'll be happy if I break 500, but it is kinda fun seeing what everyone is reading.

So far--

Strange Tales 31-39 (Marvel Masterworks)

ASM 167-168

FF 18, 24

GI Combat 57

Total 14

Do graphic novels and manga count?

I didn't read much manga last year, but I did notice that most "chapters" in what I did read were essentially the same length as a regular comic (19-24ish pages without ads) so would count those as individual issues. Graphic Novels I'd count as one unless there was clear cutoffs around those 20-30 pages, but most flowed as one connected story (so essentially the equivalent of a single "Giant Sized"/special issue.)

That reminds me... need to start Teen Titans: Earth One soon.

Art wise it looks much inferior to the Superman & Batman Earth One GNs.

Hoping it makes up for it in the writing though. :wishluck:

And here's my progress for 2015 so far:

  • The Amazing Spider-Man: Back In Quack (1)
  • Wonder Woman {N52} #0-23 (25)

Didn't think I was a Wonder Woman fan. Then I read this series and damn. Then again it IS Brian Azzarello. Can never get enough of his stuff ever since stumbling across " Joker " during last year's reading club.

I wonder if I can pirate enough books to reach 1000

Give it a few more weeks. Pirate Bay should be back soon. :wishluck:haha.gif

Aye. One of the best ways to find honest recommendations.

Good luck!

I figured, now that I'm in this challenge would be a good time to start reading all the Marvel Events in chronological order (starting with House of M)!

I'll probably do the same with DC later this year.

There are other sources than pirate bay, but pirate bay was the easiest

I'll never make it to 1000, but I'll try and track my reads here.

Off to a good start as I've already read Thor 337-344. - 8 comics.

Crazy enough, I've never read the Simonson run. So far, the "hype" is warranted. Outstanding. Exactly what I'm looking for when I read a comic. :applause:

Add Thor 345-350 - 6 more

2015 TOTAL: 14

Thor 351

Manhattan Projects 21-25 (via trade)

2015 TOTAL: 20
