TNT's TITANS Show Now Reportedly Titled 'BLACKBIRDS'

TNT'S previously announced 'Titans' may be getting a new name according to a report from SeasonZero.com. The show, which will feature a team of young adult heroes led by Nightwing ( Grayson) will now be titled 'Blackbirds.' Blackbirds may refer to the bird themed/ named characters in the show like Nightwing and Raven. This may also serve as an indication that one of the many version's of Batmans sidekick Robin may star in the show.

With the "composed of two-thirds women" from earlier it sounds like a Birds of Prey mashup-title. Too Heckle and Jeckle. Shoulda went with Nightbirds or Blackwings. Or even better, Titans.

Exactly. TITANS would build on the success of TEEN TITANS GO, while emphasizing that this is the grown-up, prime-time version.

Apparently there is no title change, and we also get our first look at Nightwing...

"Proud to share my newest collaboration with the talented photographer Mark Edwards, concept poster for the new TNT live action Teen Titans show being created titled "TITANS". I contacted Actor/Director Nick Theurer as Nightwing, who is trying to be named as the actor who will play NIGHTWING in the upcoming series. Mark set up a shoot with him in LA a few weeks ago and captured some amazing images to get me started. Our concept was that this would be an origin piece set before he has his full suit and before everyone knows who or what he really is."

Today must be Comic Book News Day.

New Details On When TEEN TITANS TV Series Begins Production, Faithfulness, Tone, And More

TV Line caught up with TNT President Kevin Reilly to ask him about its current status, and things are sounding good...if not a little slow moving!

Akiva Goldsman is writing the pilot with Marc Haimes, and rumour has it that Nightwing will be a lead character with Barbara Gordon, Hawk, Dove, Raven, and Starfire joining him. "Akiva’s been very busy doing some other things," he revealed before adding that they hope it will be "maybe this summer" that they start casting and ramping up production. With no superhero TV shows currently airing in the summer, Titans debuting in 2016 would actually be a great idea.

Titans TV Series Still In Development

As part of the DC Comics TV boom, fans were surprised in September 2014 when a Titans series was announced as being in development, especially since it wasn't at The CW, or even a major network like CBS, NBC, or Fox, the other homes of current and recent DC shows, but at cable network TNT. The original report said the team would be led by Grayson as Nightwing, and subsequent rumors and reports said Starfire, Raven, Hawk, Dove, and Barbara Gordon (in one identity or another) would also join the team.

But then in May, the pilot written by Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes was said to be going into production "maybe this summer." The show was left off any fall or spring plans at TNT and WBTV, and no casting or production happened over the summer, leading many to believe the project was simply dead on arrival.

Not so, says TVLine's Matt Mitovitch. In his weekly "Inside Line" column, he was asked about the status of the show. With a direct line to TNT president Kevin Reilly, Mitovitch is in a fairly good position to know, after all. While he didn't give any details, he did say, "I asked around and have been assured that the DC Comics-based series is still in development."

Speaking of which...

Steven R. McQueen is Nightwing in TNT's Titans?

Steven R. McQueen has been noticed by Arrow. Also the CW said in an interview "We have an actor on here that's going to another channel to play a hero. But that won't be the end of him in the show".

But also like he isn't a regular on The Vampire Diaries. But he will be in it. But TNT and the CW Working together might bring Constantine back on track as also a spin off of Arrow.

Here's Why TNT Passed On Titans

At the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday, Turner Entertainment chief creative officer Kevin Reilly announced that Teen Titans television adaptation, titled Titans, is no longer in the works at TNT. The Hollywood Reporter sat down with Reilly and found out why he passed on Titans.

THR: How much of the decision not to move forward with the DC Comics project Titans, also from Warner Bros., was based on the fact that you don’t own it?

Reilly: It wasn't. Akiva [Goldsman] is a talented guy, [but] the -script just wasn't there. There is an unbelievable glut of superhero things in the market right now and if you have a really good one, clearly people are up for it. But I just don't think that there's a need for one that, for me, at least on paper didn't seem to be screaming to get made.

So in a way, it was good that they called it quits. Otherwise, they ran the risk of a poorly delivered show.
