x-men #94 cgc 9.8 on pedigree

60 posts in this topic

Not yet, but I'm sure the next couple of dozen posts are going to be something about the miswrap or the outrageous price, blah blah blah frustrated.gif It is a great book though. I'm kind of surprised it's the only 9.8 out of 1400 books graded.

The book looks perfect.

I saw it in person.

I couldn't see anything wrong at all.

I looked for non-color breaking spine stresslines, corner bends, etc. nothing. Maybe a microscopic ding on the back but other than that, just beautiful.

Is $30K a high price? It is to me and probably to most collectors, but for the one new X-Men fan (with a lot of money), it will be their grail book.

But then again, if the book had a pefect spine, maybe it would've graded a 9.9 instead of 9.8. confused-smiley-013.gif

I do not think that is the case as I have seen CGC 9.9 copies that also had mis-wraps. If those spines were perfect, and CGC took into account production errors like that, then the books would be a 10.4.

popcorn.gifWE talked about this in the TOD 9.9 thread...CGC cuts of books at certain grades because of production flaws. IF the book was "perfect" but had the mis-wrap greater than a 1/16" it would have to be a 9.8 as a 1/16" mis wrap is the limit for a 9.9. It is the size of the mis wrap on a perfect book that determines the final allowable grade. If it was greater than 1/8" the book would be cut off at 9.6 as a 9.8 would be allowed up to a 1/8" miswrap on an otherwise perfect book...give or take a few 1000's of an inch. insane.gif

As for why these higher graded books appear with mis wrap more often than not, maybe...

1) i wonder if any one out there knows if the "white" portion of the paper has any difference in strength than the cover paper with coloured ink on it as many of the miswraped books i have graded have had almost perfect spines...co-incidence?

2) another thought.... sometimes mis-wrap occures during the storage of the book (the spine shifts slowly over a long period of time) causing pressure to be spread out over a larger area rather than over the same spot therefore not creating any storage dings..... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

36_1_25.gifThats a lot of cake for a BA book, ANY BA book - I wouldn't hold my breath just yet. The more I see these sky high prices on books 30 years old or less, with the very definite possibility of 5+ copies being out there in that condition, or more - the more the prices for original art seem to make a lot more sense.

there are 5 more 9.9s out there. Unfortunately on the day they passed thru CGC they were put in 9.8 holders!!!

whats the freaking difference between 9.8 and 9.9 anyway. Not a game Im gonna play!!

Why this and not GS #1? This seems so simple to me--GS #1 is #1, and X #94 is #2. Just like Amazing Fantasy 15 is #1 and Spidey #1 is #2 (and overpriced!).

Your right.

The difference between this and Spider-Man is that X-Men #94 is much harder to get in high grade than GS #1.

Actually, either book will be a grail book just like ASM #1 is a grail book (and probably overrated).
