Here's some of the haul from the show. The eclectic mix is a measure of the breadth of sweet material that is available at the show:

A mid-grade key I have been searching for a long time:

The issue of Mad that is near-impossible to find in decent shape without pencil markings on the cover:

And finally, a cool book from my birth year ('54) with a spectacular LB Cole cover:

Kudos to Brian for organizing the dinner and for picking up the pre-dinner drinks (totally unnecessary but very much appreciated!)893applaud-thumb.gifI had a terrific time at the show and at the lunch and dinner! It's always nice to put a face to the people that post here. The con reports have been great and I don't have much more to add. I did take advantage of the on-site grading, here's a couple scans of books that I submitted:Here's the Fatale tpbfrom Broadway Comics - I'm a big Shooter fan and this is the only one ever slabbed. The bar's set pretty high.fatale.jpg

I was hoping for 9.8 since there haven't been any in that grade, I'll settle for the tie at top census, this is the fourth in 9.6.ewgold.jpg

Some Spideys that I had for awhile, these will be on ebay soon.asm322.jpg

I also got back a Spidey 302, but it was only 9.2, not worthy of a scan. A blunted corner and a corner chip out of one of the interior pages took it right down, win some lose some.Oh, and I took the printed menu from the dinner too, figure Borock can sign it and they can slab it sig series insane.gifcgcmenu.jpg

My scanner's washed it out a bit, but you can make it out almost.I also bought some raw books and was very pleased to see VALIANT comics at some of the booths. One seller in particular had quite a selection of them (I spent the majority of my cash with him). I also got a couple caricatures of my two kids from their school pics that I had in my wallet. The guy did a superb job, but I'll have to take pics to show them off rather than scans. All in all, a terrific weekend!

the guy who runs a show in Canada and does the Shooter Awards(I'm really bad with names)

That was me, and they are the Shuster Awards, named in honour of Joe Shuster. the Canadian-born co-creator of Superman.

It was nice to meet you too. Dinner was great!

It was a great time all around. Thanks to Brian for organizing the dinner. I already posted comments about the dinner in the other thread so won't repeat them here.

I only made a few transactions. None of my major books sold. No surprise there. Most people seemed to be buying from the dollar boxes, or at least spending less than $300. I sold about $500 worth of books to other dealers and one collector. I also traded a couple of thousand dollars worth of books.

I picked up two great anti-communism books. A CGC 9.4 of Is This Tomorrow and a 8.5 or so copy of If The Devil Could Talk (or whatever the title is). I will post them once I scan them in. I also traded for a 1937 copy of the Lost Valley copy of Comics #2 CGC 9.2.

My big purchase was only marginally related to comics. I dropped about $3,500 on animation art of legal related scenes from a great dealer there.

The "stars" there were interesting. I met Marc Singer and chatted for awhile. I never saw either Richard Hatch or Erin Grey. Did they even show up? The cylon babe, who I saw up close on the street (uh, no, not waiting in line to talk with her) looks better on tv than in person. Gotta tell you it is very weird to talk with Penthouse pets and porno stars while they are pointing to naked photos of themselves on the table. Didn't buy those autographs either!!!

Overall, I enjoyed the show very much, particularly meeting all my fellow dealers/collectors. I was surprised how disorganized everything was on Sat morning with respect to getting into the arena. What a mess that was. However, I'm looking forward to attending again next year.

That's cool I'm in the Steranko shot (!)getting my classic nude pin-ups from his 1973 calendar (my birthyear) SuperGirls autographed(...pics to follow!) cloud9.gif

I didn't even notice that last night. I was too busy looking at Steranko's hair.

I heard everything from him rambling around somewhere being a lawyer to lurking around the Valiant/Acclaim characters revamp - no one was that forthcoming so we'll have to wait and see. Would anyone really be surprised? He's sort of like Larry Brown(coach of the team soon to loose to the Spurs, aka the Pistons) - no one thinks much of him as a person, but when he's around, the teams he 'coaches' seem to produce and are successful...I guess we'll see...

Interesting ramlings included: there is a 9.6 Showcase 4 now, Jim Shooter may be back in comics soon, tales from the Mile High II collection, the increasing value of restored comics among others...

Thanks to Foolkiller for organizing the event!

Any more detail about these Shooter ramblings??? blush.gif893crossfingers-thumb.gif

I was replying to the above posting...

Just wanted to say "Thanks again!" Brian for setting up a super forum dinner. It was really nice to see familiar faces again and a pleasure meeting new ones.

This was my first time to the Philly show and I loved it. The only thing I would do differently is mark on the map they give you "stuff to look at again on Sunday", but it was fun to wander about anyway. Found a HOM that had Wrightson & Adams art AND a vampire & dragon story. Talk about getting my money's worth!

If you've never been to this show put it on your to do list for next year.

For those who need to know for the next dinner at an Italian restaurant don't sit next to Ted Vanliew. He hogged all of the Ravioli and left 2 for the rest of the table. He also kept trying to eat the clam shells and it was only until we explained that he has to take out the clams did he stop chomping on them.

Steve Borock also kept pointing his pinkie in the air as he sipped from his wine glass.

Give him some credit, Bob. He was holding it by the stem.

That was just my way of giving Bob "the finger" poke2.gif

Just out of curiousity, did anyone at the dinner eat the pork loin? I don't think the tray at my table even got touched? It was just as well as the desserts were exceptional and people had room for them this year.

I did - it was good - there were some mashed potatoes in there and some sauted mushrooms...it wasn't as good as the ravioli - but I made room on my plate!

Me too! The potatoes rocked!!!!! cloud9.gif

Small world time, but that's my buddy Dino standing next to you in that pic! He was with us for pre-dinner drinks on Satuday. I'll send him a link to the pic, he'll get a kick out of it, I'm sure!

Thanks for posting the pics Rob!
