Tape on the interior?

Yep!

Spine of cover completely split. Cover re-attached with tape. Tape on interior.

That and the pages are most likely brittle. That is a fairly common scenario with the PGX to CGC conversion of golden age books.

Could It fair to assume that the book was graded by PGX

at a time before the new stance on tape repair was introduced by CGC

and adopted the new standard.

Once upon a time, CGC graded detached covers as high as

VG 4.0 with tape repair reattaching the cover.

With the new stance, it was graded Fair + 1.5 which would be standard

for a book with a detached cover that was not reattached with tape.

Do you have the PGX label showing when the book was graded by them?

Graded 8/11.

That was before the new standard and treatment of tape was instituted.

You would've had the same result if you took a CGC 5.0 graded on 8/11

with the tape notation and cracked it out and had CGC regrade it.

Yep. What he said. CGC changed their treatment of tape after some really big books (Tec 27 for instance) having had tape added and getting a grade bump. There just doesn't seem to be a good solution to tape. Because now we have books that look 4.0-5.0 getting 1.5 grades because of tape.

I've bought a couple myself. They looked so much better than the grade.

I'm also not sure any other grading company is treating tape the same way CGC is. So this could be something that happens with any cross grading, no matter when the book graded.

Do the CGC books graded prior to tape-gate all have notes on the label about tape and level of use/location?

I would imagine that it would be based on an individual basis for each book for the amount of tape on the book.

If the book's cover was completely detached and reattached with tape I can't see why it wouldn't be noted on the actual label.
