Why is Rebirth getting so far behind?

Van Sciver's art is meticulously detailed and it does take him a while to complete. The first few issues were done well in advance, I think they may have staggered the shipping schedule to give him extra time to complete the last issues so there's not a huge gap between the 4th and 5th issues, or between the 5th and 6th issues.

They did the same thing last year with Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier.

Actually, it is my understanding that it was either the inking or the coloring that was holding up the issue. I was at my LCS last week and they called Ethan (they're good friends, he came to do a signing with Rebirth #1 came out), and Ethan himself was surprised that it wasn't out yet, he had handed it over quite a while back.

I guess we'll never know the real truth though... Maybe since Ethan's art is so detailed, it just takes extra long to ink and color as well?
