How jaded are the CGC graders...

I look at a lot of books each and every day. It does start to get old after a while.

I can definitely understand this. I sell sporting goods for a living, and hardly a day goes by that a customer doesn't come up to me and say "You have the best job in the world" or "I would love to have your job!" From their point of view, I'm sure it looks great, but after doing it for 12 years, it's just a job to me. Don't get me wrong, I work for a great company and have every intention of retiring from there, but my interest in sports and sporting goods was definitely much greater before I did it for a living. I've enjoyed collecting comics since 1979, but I'm sure that if I made my living with them, my interest would eventually fade. I think that it's great that some people can make a living doing what they love, but it just doesn't work for everyone.

I've always loved working on computers so I got a job in IT. I still like what I do but it's definitely not what I want to do anymore when I'm not at work. I would have to think about any job would get the same way eventually.

I imagine if you were on the job for a while, it would get boring and stressful. As a grader, you probably have a quota, knowing there are 1,000's of comics waiting to be graded. I don't think you would have much time for the "wow" experience. I can see myself being burned out after a few months. It would become a grind for me. The first few months might be exciting to see and hold such great books, but I don't think I'd have the time to enjoy it. Besides, if you're just one of the new graders, you probably won't have the opportunity to grade the super keys until you're more experienced (and good).

This is the problem with the modern world. The "machine" was supposed to be in the service of people but people serve the "machine". Can you imagine working in a cubical for 20 -30 years?

I want to work for cgc just so I can beat borock's or haspels or Litch's single day grading record...

I believe you're confusing speed and accuracy

speed with accuracy...that's what I'm talking about

It would take a case of Coke Zero to give you the caffeine kick needed to hang with these guys for a small stack.

I've seen one of these guys grade a HG SA/BA book in 30 seconds tops.

That's tape removal, getting out of the bag, cover overview and page count!

:insane:

"You can have it done right, fast or cheap - pick two."

Or in that case, it looks like they only chose one: Fast. :eyeroll:

I would think it should take WAY more than 30 seconds just to carefully turn and scan over each page, let alone inspect it thoroughly.

I wonder if porn-stars get this way.

No wonder grades can change drastically on a re-sub.

"NOW they notice a water-stain? So this 9.6 I paid good money for is a 7.0..." *puts gun in mouth*

I would think after a long day of "shooting" that would probably be the last thing they'd want to do that night ;)
